We are by far the worst country in this respect so it is useless to ask why has England or Australia dealt with mass shootings better. because they dont have the same culture of guns embedded in their politicians. We have politicians entrenched into this violent gun culture so where Australia ended mass shootings after thier first big one, the U.S. will never succeed because in places like Texas they consider guns like an extension of their body.

what other country has an entire political party dedicated to removing all obstacles to owning a gun.....only the U.S.

Saying we need to change is great but dont be naive... it wont change.

I am saying the way it is now, not that I accept it and think it is ok...but to not think that is the way it is now is just naive.

thinking Congress will magically change on the 250th school shooting is naive when you all keep electing the same people into office who maintain the status quo.

The 2nd amendment was intended for the U.S. to have a ready (armed) Army and well-regulated militias so that we can protect ourselves against foreign invaders.
  • The Supreme court used that to say it "protects an individual right to bear arms" and has allowed each individual state to manage gun control on their own.
Look at it this way, the United States will never be invaded with ground troops by another country because the U.S. population is too well-armed against foreign invaders and against its own citizens...the latter is problematic because it then implies that those citizens with criminal intent are well-armed against their fellow U.S. citizens.

Yet, laws need to change if the laws are doing more harm than good. Unfortunately, a lot of states are in bed with the NRA, and gun dealers involving assault weapons because it's a billion-dollar business and helps politicians to get elected...

It won't change and there will be more mass shootings because of the political relationship of sleeping in the bed with the NRA and gun-dealers except a few states may change their own state laws but a national mandatory law...I don't think it will happen.

I'm in the camp that we need to do something instead of nothing.

The 2nd Amendment is the root of all problems because at no time did the Founding Fathers every think that people would not be allowed to own rifles to hunt and protect their lands. However... after fighting agaisnt a heavily armed tyranical government, those memories were still fresh in the minds of the founding fathers with some misgivings about the new government they were forming and wanted to make sure it did not grow so big as to repeat the mistakes of England. Therefore the people had to have a safety net.

To think the founding fathers intended for children to be able to buy weapons like the AR15 with high mag clips and that weapons should be freely available to anyone is laughable but that is basically the view of today's NRA and people in Texas and similar states.

Require a 3 day waiting period or a license? THAT IS AN ASSAULT ON MY 2ND A RIGHTS!

Biggest mistake was putting it in the Constitution but you can understand the sentiment behind it AT THE TIME. Every act of Congress is a limitation on some right in the Bill of Rights but people don't lose their shit over 1st Amendment issues like they do for the 2nd. It has a special place in U.S. history which is why I can say with 100% certainty..... nothing will change.

The founders provided for a means of amending the constitution where it the will of the people supported it.

Versus the dem approach which is "we know the will of the people and the states will not support it so that is why we need to pack the court."

2nd A does not need to be amended.... the idea that 18 year olds MUST have AR15s and large clips is easily corrected by Congress.
