Truthfully, as I have said prior and this guy proved that law enforcement can’t even stop these shooters, we need to give children guns in school. As crazy as it sounds, they at least deserve a chance to protect themselves.

I absolutely don't agree with this and I cannot believe you are actually serious. children with firearms? I think you're not being genuine here.
What do you think about locking the school better, with a uniformed and trained officer?
My child goes to middle school here in Tampa. To even get access to the school I have to run a bell at a gate, and the person responding asks to see my driver's license (remotely through the camera) and asks me what my child's name is and why I am there to pick him up. There is an officer on grounds at all time in the front office.
No 18 year old maniac is getting into this school.
It's not just a gun problem and until we address that no real solution will arrive. The mental health issue among young people is at critical mass. Instead of treating them, we are encouraging them to sink deeper into their delusional state.
That said, we can do some of what I think would be effective to some degree.
1. No one, and I mean no one can walk into a gun store and walk out with a same day purchase of a gun, any gun. Everybody waits at least three days, maybe longer.
2. Thorough background checks for everyone.
3. Everyone gets mandatory firearm training with the newly purchased weapon BEFORE they can take it home. Training includes when it may be used for self defense. Training in monitored by professionals looking for red flag type individuals. Like I wrote in my previous post, we're going to step on some toes.
Will this stop criminals? No. That's a completely different issue which also needs a good look at how we deal with criminals who use a firearm while committing crimes.
We better do something, or get used to watching this unfold with more frequency.
I disagree on the 3 day wait in point 1. Here is why. I went through rigorous background checks to get my CCW, which allows me to get a same day purchase. Each weapon I purchase still has an ATF run on it (so my background is still checked) but I don't have to wait three days because I've already gone through fingerprinting and an ID colonoscopy.
Everyone else, yep. 3 day wait.

3. This follows the CCW method where you must show proficiency with a firearm before getting a CCW. I agree.

I'm still trying to get behind the comment el Ocho said where the 18 year old here wasn't subject to a background check. Is that accurate?
I don't know if that's a state to state requirement. If it's not, it should be. One of the problems is that this particular guy probably would have passed the current criteria for a background check given he had no criminal history. Brings up another sticky subject. How much of a criminal history should prevent gun ownership? Should that be expanded? Should different weapons have different criteria for ownership? Should any mental health treatment exclude ownership? How deep do we look into a persons history? At what point are we making it near impossible to purchase a weapon?
Never said it was. But that's the place to start.
But can a student get in with a gun?
Turn 18. Go out and buy guns.
