Another school shooting

Some part of the numerous school shootings in the U.S. needs to be tied back to personal and parental responsibility.

I grew up in suburban Long Island near the NYC line. Our public high school -- back in the 70s/80s -- had both a archery and riflery team. Every day (during the season) students would bring their guns and bows into school for practices & competitions against other schools. Our school also had a Junior RTOC program. The NRA every year also sponsored programs from elementary school & up about gun safety.

We never had a problem with students shooting up schools with guns during this time -- even though the 1970s was a fairly active period of civil & racial strife in the U.S. What has changed? What causes students (or recent students) to suddenly start showing up and shooting up schools in the past couple of decades?

Its the amount of guns available. Access equals incidence.

This is why this happens in America. Dumbass people go on tv and tell people we need ballistic blankets and trip wires instead of responsible gun laws…

In the last 24 hours since the Uvalde massacre, Fox News has proposed at least 50 "solutions" and none of them are gun control.

In the last 24 hours left media have proposed one solution and it only involves guns

Then there is the reality that the police could not enter the classroom with the shooter for over 40 minutes because the door was locked. It took them over 40 minutes to think of asking another teacher or administrator for a key to the classroom so they could unlock the door and enter it (as outlined the articles I posted).

The SRO would have had access and been familiar with the school. The SRO would have also engaged the intruder, and if there were a single point of entry, they could have resisted the shooter long enough for pursuing law enforcement to take him out. The whole thing was bungled.

No SRO there, no single point of entry.

If we are going to be committed to unregulated guns then arm the kids! It’s the only responsible thing to do.

Yes. Our level of gun violence in America is exceptional.

That isn't what I asked. I asked specifically if other countries who had policies that "Worked" as you claimed also had the same number of guns in circulation.

You wanna get pissed about something? This shit needs to be investigated immediately. Cops that did not engage - assuming that is what happened - should be held under criminal charges. I don't know what exactly happened yet, but a full FEDERAL investigation should be done on everyone all the way up to the highest cop in the land.

If you are an officer and you don't immediately and unconditionally engage to protect children, go find another fucking job.

Around and around we go. No. No country as the amount of privately owned guns as America. The last I checked for every 100 people there is 120 guns. That is off of the charts bananas amounts of guns.

And you don’t need to put worked in quotes, there is no doubt virtually every other western country has a gun regulation scheme that works.

Yup. We know the right will throw anything out there besides the measures we know will work.

Tou guys don’t seem to understand that it’s the amount of guns that is the problem. You’re suffering from the boiled frog syndrome. Things are changing dramatically but you can’t notice because it’s a slow progression. Very similar to climate change. Keeping all conditions the same will only grow the problem. We can look forward to a future of more gun violence almost every year, year after year until we get sensible regulations.
