Every nation gets the government that it deserves. Congress is a 100 % corrupt institution whose members get elected 7 re-elected despite their mischief. Why ? because more people make their decision on political 30 sec ads than reasoned thinking.
Can't blame the senators for pursuing corporate interests & fund-raising money. They understand all too well that the sheep are not inclined to look at 20 year deficit curves & strategic interests of the country....

Agreed! Only thing is, smarter scrutiny = profiling...right? It's a catch 22 for the PC nation we have become.
Profiling is not the problem...racial, ethnic, and religious profiling is the issue.
Christianity doesn't have a core, there are thousands of sects and millions of interpretations. Its evolution is is marked by the large decline of violence against nonbelievers, the declining attacks on secularism and science, and declining role it pays in everyday life. This morass of religion receeded as the western enlightenment and secular government showed us the way to a better life. That's evolution, the majority realizes that it's not really what it's sold as and people move on.
The bulk of Islam is still like the fringes of christianity. Violence against nonbelievers, promotion of the role of church as government (sharia), and the tortured stranglehold on the everyday lives of its people. To say the extremists are marginalized is ridiculous- entire nations are goverened by extremist islam. Saudi, the Taliban, Iran, Pakistan is threatening...
The 9/11 hijackers were not violent because of some primitive tribal culture, they came from relatively well to do families and were educated. No, they had their heads pumped full of hate by a religion which will not tolerate any challenges to its theology, which is locally defined of course by the nearest Imam. The problem is that technology allows just a few twisted people to cause a lot of damage. One asshole with a suitcase nuke can start WWIII. This threat is real and should not be underestimated. Islam teaches these guys to love death, all you need then is to show them how to cause destruction. About 15,000 deadly terror attacks over the last decade yet muslims keep insisting that the threat is imaginary....why? shame?
America was not undergoing strong 'class warfare' in 2001 nor at anytime in the decade preceeding it, I was there. We were not looking for a fight against another boogey man, people were more worried about the tech bust than anything and the middle class does not hate the upper class. Hate breeds more hate, we didn't care about muslims much before 2000, despite the narcissistic claims of muslims. Now we do.
