What happened?
At 6:09pm EST Gab became aware of several accounts that were posting bitcoin wallet spam and related content. At 6:25pm out of an abundance of caution we brought the site offline in order to immediately assess the situation, solve the problem, and get Gab back online as soon as possible. Because of our quick action zero bitcoin was sent to any of the addresses posted and the affected accounts have been secured.

Yep, it's back up.

It's the only popular website left that allows conservative opinions, and would let somebody like Trump post. (Don't know if it's actually "popular" many people also hadn't heard of it - maybe they all have been silenced).

But, the need to censor unapproved knowledge is so urgent that some people are willing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars to do it. Case in point - Fox News. Fox News lost almost half of their viewership after they were purchased by more liberal interests. Hundreds of millions in value went out the door.

The point is - someone is going to offer the young man that owns Gab $75 million, or more, to buy his website and remove the unapproved knowledge that is posted there. Then he will have a tough decision to make. Most people take the money.
