There is something a bit off about these stats.

When I was trading the oil space in futures 5 years ago, I recall a significant stat. And that was we (USA) continually had to import heavier (sour) oils, because we could not produce them. And those heavier grades are what we need to produce shit like diesel and bunker fuel.

Not only that, we did not have adequate refining capacity to refine the sour crude to diesel, like we have for the light sweet stuff we produce, to match the pace of our demand. Is this still true today?

So while we may produce boatload of BBLs of light sweet oils, we still need to import many grades. So net net, we are not the end-all-be-all of producers. I dunno', just going off of a vague memory about the space.
