Trump is probably kicking himself for not getting in. In a rational sense, he would be crazy to expose himself to a campaign and all the attacks that would be forthcoming, but he has an ego the size of the Pacific Ocean. When he looks at what is happening in the republican field, he has to think he could be leading.
