The TODAY SHOW just had another segment from that DATELINE computor sting thing where they find predators trolling chat rooms looking to meet up with 13 - 15 year-olds. This time, the show went predator hunting in a small town in Ohio and nabbed over a dozen guys - including an 6th grade teacher !!! His embarassment and apology tugged at my heart, eliciting from me the entire .1oz of compassion I have for animals like him.

But when you think about it, DATELINE has come up with a clever way for neighborhood crime watch groups to cast their nets.

A very valid point, but ...

DATELINE is doing it, and it doesn't seem to be so. But I think the act of a predator - kidnapping, restraining and brutalizing their victims - comes close to violating the civil rights of these innocent children.

Those who advocate compassion for and the humane treatment of these despots are drawing a line in the sand over which they will not cross in order to protect our children. I know no line.

They say that certain acts constitute revenge and lower us to the level of these animals ... castration for example. Well, I think that the only things that make these perpetrators of such inhuman acts human are that they walk upright and can reason, and therefore deminishes their right to such compassions.

Imagine: A commotion from my daughters bedroom awakens me at3AM. I enter to find her duct-taped and bound with rope on her bed. Beside her, I see an ordinary looking guy with his pants pulled down around his ankles. But when he sees me, he reaches into his pockets, and pulls out a copy of the Constitution and says: "Don"t you touch me ... Constitution !! ... Constitution !! ... I have my rights !!" Being a God-fearing patriot, I : a) agree with him, gather up my daughter and leave the room, b) make a citizens' arrest ... " you have the right to remain silent ..."c) or what ?? I know ... I could perform on him a "laying on of the hands", plead temporary insanity, and hide behind that same Constution. Because I was temporarily insane, I was not vengeful nor lowered to his level, but rather I had delusions of bringing him closer to his God thru that "laying on of the hands". Amen.
 
And speaking of duct tape and rope ... a story in my local paper told of another of these DATELINE stings in a neihboring town. One of the 8 captured had a teddy bear and one had - duct tape and rope!!!!!!! ..... one lives near me and one lives a few blocks from where I work. NONE have a history/record for such crimes and most have watched these stings on TV in the past - obviously with no deterrant effect. GRRrrrrr .....

Do you really think your reasoning is from a dispassionate logic, or are you reasoning from the pain, anger, and rage you appear to feel?

Again, this is why the law and the process of justice must be devoid of emotions....blind from hatred and feelings of the need for revenge.

Civilized society has a need to strike a reasonable balance between security and freedom.

Is your statement that hundreds of innocents killed by released prisoners is acceptable and proof that the parole system is working, what you call a "reasonable balance between security and freedom"?

If a society is civilized, it's top priority is the protection of its citizens, especially its most vulnerable - the children.
 
More than 1,100 people wanted for violent sex crimes were among 9,037 fugitives arrested in a weeklong roundup, the Justice Department said Thursday.

The arrests were made as part of "Operation Falcon II," a 27-state dragnet timed to coincide with National Victims Rights Week.

This year's focus was on sex offenders, a group that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has made a priority in his 15 months at the Justice Department. Gonzales and U.S. Marshals Service Director John Clark were to discuss the results of the roundup later Thursday at a news conference in Washington.

During the week of April 17-23, federal, state and local authorities arrested 1,102 people wanted for violent sex crimes. It was the largest number ever captured in a single law enforcement operation.

LOL, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I'm sure the criminals have it on their calendar and defer their rape plans until the following week.
