17th Street Surf Shop?

I used to be a jump ramp kid BITD. Ha. I only really skated the Mt. Trashmore ramp regularly from '88- '90 and mostly just the metal mini when they built that. I always hated the fiberglass surface of the ramps before they went metal. I tended to skate Bayville before the metal. Slayer was about the only thing played at Bayville too.

Yep, the 17th st surf shop! Man, those guys made their own wheels and would constantly try to sell me on their wheels rather than the Kryps. My first kryps were the green 60mm around 1980 bought from 17th street. I went from goofy foot nash plastic wheels to the green kryps on the composite krypto board--- that was like going from a tricycle to a ferarri at the time-- then skated untill I ripped all the ligaments in my ankle and broke Lumbar 1 in my back--- that slowed me down--- Now, i'm old and fat but remember the great times.

Do you remember the fiberglass park in VA beach? I don't remember the name, then there were the city's concrete bowls--- i think--- It had this wave thing that was very cool at the time.

I saw Slayer on a monster of metal tour with motorhead, exodus, and a few others. Talk about loud!

Mt. Trashmore started off as an asphalt snake run that was a lot of fun. There was also an asphalt bowl without coping that was unskateable and, of course, the downhill luge. That stuff was built in the mid 70's. There were also concrete parks (the Norfolk Bowl, Thunder Bowl) that were built several years later that may have had fiberglass old school half pipes. Those closed down by '80 or '81. The vert ramp was built at Mt. Trashmore in '85. The original surface was plywood; it was made fiberglass in '86. There were also fiberglass ramps constructed in '86 in Lynnhaven and Red Wing parks. Trashmore went metal in '88. You probably remember Trashmore in '86 or '87. The snake run and asphalt bowls were torn down in '88.

I skated crappy little plastic boards from the 70's until '86.
