It depend of course on your broker the way you have to give your order.

I am personaly using Refco Express most of the time or I email my broker. Very seldom I have to call him.

I have enjoyed reading this thread and plan on continuing. I have moved from trading seasonals to spreads because they trade much more nicely.

You are absolutely right agtrader777. Seasonality seem to work better on spreads. Because you are trading 2 contracts (long and short) at the same time you do not get so many "artificial" moves in the spreads. In an outright futures position you get kicked out very often just because the guys with the big $$$ are moving the market up and down to get the stops.

Yes sakimonohito I am also trading currency spreads but not so often. Currency spreads do also show some seasonality but the seasonality is not as strong as in other markets. You can also trade them on Forex but I personally have not done it. Too expensive for me, the future electronic market is also open 24 hours and much cheaper.

I am still with my LH and BO spreads. Unfortunately BO is going nowhere and LH did stop to move up.

My plan is to give it till end of the week.

hi andy,

so its not unheard of for people to trade spot in lieu of futures spreads?

i'm trying a demo with buy cad sell aud spread . cad is up 40 pips while aud is up 20, net +20. i created an equal dollar amount for each position so the pip alue is the same for each. i used the usd as the neutral currency. is this a decent method? is this considered a "synthetic" spread?

sorry to answer so late:

the "normal" way on futures is to multiply each side of the spread with its US$ value/unit move. normally you trade a ratio of 1:1.

this way you get an equity chart and each move of one tick = 1 US$.

I have never traded the spreads on forex only on futures and I don't know the different unit values for the different currencies.

Got out and took the loss on my BO spread:

out on 9 x BOZ5 - BON6 yesterday 10/20 at -0,70.

Hyp. loss on this one is -$1,026 - commission of $450 = -$1,476

I took profit on my LH spread

out on 3 LHG6 - LHZ5 yesterday 10/20 at 3.0. I still got one lot left.

Hyp. profit on this one is $240 - commission of -$150 = $90 (yeaaaa!)

Hyp. account is now at $41,402
 
Andy, do you prefer to work primarily calendar spreads or do you like intermarket spreading like LC/FC and C/W? Two or three times a year, there are some monstrous moves in the intermarket spreads.
