Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan’s home was raided by Romanian authorities, specifically the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, on the morning of 29 December, reports Romanian media and the two have reportedly been taken into custody.

A December 29 report, initially from Romanian outlet Libertatea claimed that Andrew Tate’s home in Pipera had been raided by Romanian police in relation to the abduction of two girls. Now, Tate and his brother have both been taken into custody.

The raid is said to be carried out by DIICOT, the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism in Bucharest.

As the news broke, a clip emerged that showed Tate being led out of the villa in police custody, but no further context has been given at this time.

The authorities have reportedly focused attention on a number of luxury vehicles at the residence. Antenna 3 CNN reports that a police trailer is on-site, possibly to uplift one or multiple vehicles.

The same outlet also reports that the home of a former policewoman has been raided in connection to the investigation.

Back in April of 2022, Andrew Tate faced allegations of human trafficking in Romania, the country in which he resides.

However, Tate stated that the issues arose from a swatting incident: “I was not arrested. What happened is I suffered from a case of swatting. It’s very popular with people who are large on the internet.

“[Police] turned up, they investigated, they realized nobody was in the house against their will, there was no crime committed […] we had to go to the police station for 45 minutes for pieces of paper, we filled them in and we were let go.”

Just a day after being roasted by teen activist Greta Thunberg, far-right influencer Andrew Tate was arrested Thursday in Romania on human trafficking and rape allegations, according to local reports.

Romania’s Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) confirmed in a statement that cops raided five homes tied to four suspects as part of an investigation into organized crime, human trafficking and rape. It did not name the four suspects but said two were British citizens and two were Romanian citizens.

Romanian newspaper Gândul was among several local outlets to identify the two British citizens as Tate, a British-American former kickboxing champ better known for his grossly misogynistic online persona and his 33 cars, as well as his brother, Tristan.

DIICOT said at least six victims had come forward to allege they were trafficked by the two British citizens, and kept captive in houses surrounding Bucharest, where they were sexually assaulted and forced to produce pornography for social media under threats of physical violence.

The U.S. Embassy first received a complaint that an American woman was being held at the brothers’ home without her consent, Gândul reported.

“Victims were recruited by British citizens by misrepresenting their intention to enter into a marriage/cohabitation relationship and the existence of genuine feelings of love (the loverboy method),” a translated version of DIICOT’s statement said.

“They were later transported and housed in buildings in Ilfov county where, by exercising acts of physical violence and mental coercion (through intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts), they were sexually exploited by group members by forcing them to perform pornographic demonstrations for the purpose of producing and disseminating through social media platforms material... and by submitting to the execution of a forced labor.”

A video released by the agency showed cops storming luxury homes and compiling cash, guns, bars of gold and expensive cars.

The four suspects were arrested and ordered detained for 24 hours for questioning, the department said.

A popular tweet that pushed this rumor read, "Romanian authorities needed proof that Andrew Tate was in the country so they reportedly used his social media posts. His ridiculous video yesterday featured a pizza from a Romanian pizza chain, Jerry's Pizza, confirming he was in the country. This is absolutely epic."





However, we soon found that this rumor was false.

Ramona Bolla, a spokesperson from Romania's anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, said that the rumor was "funny," but was not true, according to The Associated Press (AP).

The AP also noted that, earlier in the same week, Tate had "posted a video on Twitter of a mountainous region of Romania, the Eastern European country where he is reported to have lived for the last five years." In other words, he had already indicated on his public social media presence that he was in the country.

In the video that Tate posted with the Jerry's Pizza boxes, he appeared to be attempting to respond in a clever manner to an extremely popular comeback tweet from Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.





As we reported in a different story, Thunberg's tweet had mocked Tate with a "small dick energy" joke after he had originally mentioned her name while bragging about his luxury car collection "and their respective enormous emissions." Her tweet received more than 3.5 million likes, far more than the hundreds of thousands of likes that Tate's tweets brought in.

Tate was initially detained for 24 hours on charges of human trafficking and rape. His brother Tristan was also part of the arrest, as were two other women, one who was described as a former policewoman. It's unclear if Tate will be released, but his Twitter account did show new tweets as of Dec. 30, apparently after the 24-hour period had ended.

According to The AP's reporting, Bolla said that prosecutors were attempting to extend the arrest warrant to 30 days.

DIICOT said in a statement late Thursday that the four suspects in the case, which include two British citizens and two Romanians, were arrested on charges of being part of an organized crime group, human trafficking and rape.

The agency said the British citizens recruited women who were subjected to "acts of physical violence and mental coercion," sexually exploited by group members and forced to perform pornographic acts intended to reap "important financial benefits."

The statement didn't name the Tate brothers. Photographs published by Romanian media outlets appeared to show Tate being led away in handcuffs by masked law enforcement officers.

DIICOT said it identified six people who were sexually exploited by the organized criminal group, and that five homes were raided on Thursday.

In the weeks before Tate's arrest, his Twitter account had been reinstated after Elon Musk took ownership of the company. Tate was previously banned from the platform in 2017 after posting tweets that the company found violated its policies. At least one of those tweets said that women should bear "some responsibility" for being sexually assaulted, according to CBS News.
