Caminus to Be Bought by SunGard Data Systems; Shares Rise

-- SunGard Data Systems Inc., a financial-software provider, agreed to acquire Caminus Corp. for about $159 million to add software services. SunGard will pay $9 a share in cash for Caminus's 17.7 million shares outstanding, the Wayne, Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement. The purchase price is more than triple Caminus's closing share price Friday of $2.50. Caminus shares more than tripled, rising $6.36 to $8.86 at 10:17 a.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. Caminus, a New York-based maker of software that helps utilities and gas producers trade energy commodities, had $84 million in sales last year. SunGard provides Wall Street firms and money managers with equity, bond and currency processing technology. The transaction is expected to be completed in the current quarter, SunGard said. SunGard shares fell 34 cents to $21.29 at 10:19 a.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.
