and here we go....

The thing is, this was it. This trial was intentionally left apolitical by the prosecution and it's why they largely focused on the financial crimes without mentioning Trump. If they can't get a jury to convict on this, they'll never get him on the next one which focuses heavily on the politics.

If they can't get him on this then the articles saying Mueller is incompetent are correct.

Gates or Mannafort or both were criminals. I would hope prosecutors were not so stupid as to prosecute the wrong guy. It was really odd when I read that the accountant said she thought Mannafort knew about the fraudulent returns she was preparing under the direction of Gates.

It makes sense that the jury wanted to know the definition of reasonable doubt. To me that is reasonable doubt. If I am juror and a count in the case hinges on that testimony, the defendant walks as to that count because he is presumed innocent. You can't find him guilty because and accountant thought he knew Gates was cooking the returns.

I'm calling it, this will be a mistrial. If the jury can't deliberate by now, they've obviously got blinders on.

There definitely will be a hung jury on some of the counts but the witch hunter set the prosecution up in a way that maximizes his chances of getting a conviction on at least one count.

Mannafort is facing 17-18 separate counts. Mueller set it up that way - rather than focusing on just a couple of the major violations- so that in order to have a hung jury they would have to be unable to reach agreement on all 18 counts- or various combinations- hung on some, acquitted on others, but conviction on at least one or two.

In addition, Mueller used a different court in DC to indict Mueller on his other charges - second trial coming right up in september. By using a different court he gets to try his luck with a different set of jurors....in case the first set in the first trial are duds.

Yup. This is what a full scale witch hunt looks like. Charges in his first case are based on actions 13 years ago, and have absolutely no connection to Russia. Yet the DOJ has amassed one of the largest and most expensive investigations and prosecution teams in history- all because Mannafort worked with Trump for two months.

Dont forget for a minute that this is all about Trump. Mueller wins next to nothing even if he gets a conviction unless he can flip Mannafort on Trump which he had hoped to do before trial and to avoid trial. Not happened yet. Mueller will get another chance before sentencing as a result of his first and second trials. Then Mannafort will need to decide whether he wants to go for a reduced sentencing deal with Mueller which would alienate Trump. Or whether he wants to refuse a plea deal and stay in Trumps good graces and get a pardon/commutation.

Witch Hunt. It's one of the lowest points in the history of American justice. Having to watch the entire DOJ/FBI apparatus become a KGB outfit all while accusing others of being in the tank for Russia. If Mannafort is smart he will not flip- and it is not clear he has anything, anyway- but he should just ride it out. Even if he has to do a year or two until mueller goes away and Trump can pardon him, it would be a better deal than what he can get with Mueller. Mueller will give Mannafort a lot for flipping but he has to make sure that Mannafort gets at least some time because he is not going to be able to get Trump. It's how witch hunt pussies roll.

Keep in mind that others can play that squeeze and flip game too. McCabe, Ohr, Christopher Steel can easily be put in a position of having to decide how much they want to say in return for seeing their families for the next several years.
