What are you afraid of ? That kids who grew up in the US and got educated in the US will somehow be less American ? The only problems occur if Americans treat these kids differently then other kids, which creates a harsh environment that can be more conducive to desperation, poverty, and/or criminal behavior. Unfortunately, the US has areas where people of different skin colour or religion are treated differently, that's what needs to be worked on.

Isolating kids of illegals also can create harsh realities for those kids that can get exploited by others and the world needs to be a more compassionate place.

There should be a formal guest worker program as undocumented people can be taken advantage of. It should include a path towards citizenship for the parents and kids, but I'm not sure a kid born to a woman who recently snuck over the border should automatically be a citizen and anchor baby when there are people waiting from all over the world to get in legally. How many pregnant women and others have died in transit, not only en route to the States but Europe?

Tell us again how Canada treats illegal immigrants and the children of illegal immigrants. Canada treats illegal immigrants harshly and very quickly deports entire families including children born in Canada. Every week in the paper up in Toronto there is a new story about this. Why doesn't the U.S. adopt Canada's policies towards illegal immigrants. Or even Mexico's much more harsh policy towards illegal immigrants.

If you haven't figured it out yet the U.S. has one of the most permissive policies towards illegal immigrants in the world. It needs to be reigned in.
