I dont think Republicans supported ex felons voting.It was on the ballot and passed in 2018 by voters than republicans added the poll tax to make it tougher for ex felons to vote
GOP had the majority and could have shut it down in numerous ways. To be fair it was not a poll tax, it was, you did the crime now pay the fine. Sort of a carrot and stick. You did the time and want to vote but you still owe fines and fees. Iam not sure that is really unfair to expect them to pay back court costs before being fully labelled as "served their time".
