Quote from KINGOFSHORTS:
What about the Engineering Jobs, Programming and IT jobs being sent overseas?
I guess Americans will not do those jobs either.
Actually, Americans won't do ANY competitive and demanding job.
Quote from xtrader0:
People who are so special that the highest level of accomplishment they have been able to achieve in their life in this great country is to get a job that any illiterate kid from a 3rd world country can do.
Leaving politics and nationalism aside, isn't this natural selection?
Quote from MightyOne:
American jobs are trading/investing and making money off of the misfortune of others (could throw doctors etc in this group).
-Hell, you could call us children of the FED
If you are not in any of those groups then you might as well consider yourself jobless.
Again, this sounds like evolution: survival of the strongest.
Quote from optimal:
+1. It's amazing how people will make any excuse to not do what's needed - that is, work 12+ hours a day for 3-7 years straight to make your business a success.
I hate to say it, but there's also a work ethic issue here. The kids of immigrants are more likely than their white middle class counterparts to work their asses off in school. This results in a disproportionate number of them showing up in high paying jobs which require post-graduate degrees. Similarly among the adults, and this is especially true in the Chinese families who don't have the high-level language skills that others have, the focus is on working two jobs for 15 or 20 years and spending next to nothing the entire time. That's a good way to earn a lot of money for someone with a lack of skills. You can buy yourself a house, and 15 years later buy another one, and you're on your way.
More than work ethic, it's actually a willingness to work issue.
Americans are getting accustomized to live on unemployment benefits.
Immigrants had no such benefits on their countries, so they know that if they don't work, they just won't eat at all.
Quote from hippie:
There may be some exceptions here and there. Even so, I don't think a business making it here if the owner doesn't have the living expense or another source of income for a year or two.
30 years ago, it was possible to start a hawker stand in China, that is not longer the case. US is not over regulated, you can't even have a coffee card or ice-cream truck w/o paying a bunch fees, insurance, licences and leases here in California. A friend did an ice-cream truch in Florida with a lot less bureaucratic hassle.
Even those were already taken by immigrants.
Quote from bone:
If America sucks so bad, why aren't tens of millions of humans trying to break into Mexico, or China, or wherever?
Only americans perceive America as bad.
America it's a paradise for immigrants.
Maybe it's actually a matter of nationalism?
Those who really love America, (the immigrants) are going to control America
Quote from bigarrow:
This is still the land of opportunity.
It is, for those willing to work at all.
Teen X-boxers, crackheads, and sissies will have a hard time...
... and they deserve it.
Quote from jem:
I have to clear up a few things... its all relative.
1. Maybe the white middle class kids or black people would start out working the low end jobs if they those jobs were forced to compete for their labor.
So yes in order work you way up in some organizations you may have to start off with a very low paying job... but at the same time. 8 bucks an hour is not going to motivate someone who gets 1600 hundred a month from the govt. or can work for cash in a restaurant.
So, just kill those extended unemployment benefits, so they will work.
