American flag T-shirts incendiary in CA school

Quote from Mnphats:

LOL!!!!

WTF does rivers and streams have to do with anything? Further, at no other time have we cared more about our "river and streams".

"Our rivers and streams" now your American?

Not only that but I'm laughing at the "they cared for the rights of minority groups."

Hmmm....

I have a question. Did the school also remove the flag from the flagpole of the school, from the auditorium, the principal's office for the sake of being "sensitive" to Mexican-Americans?

IF not, then there must be something else to this story. Perhaps oen or more of the five boys have a history of instigating fights with the Mexican-America students. Perhaps some bullying because of their nationality had occurred prior.

Even so...

Captainobvious's rant says it all really. It's be hard to top that.

Good Point. I am beginning to think there is a lot more to this story.

The captain is choosing to be oblivious. If anything, he should be offended that the flag was intentionally being used as a device. You'd think a person of judgment would be offended that his country's flag was being used (dare I say abused?) in such a disrespectful manner.

How in the hell can the visual image of the American flag, on American soil, be offensive? This is America! The flag can be shown on any day, at any time during day light hours. You don't have to like the flag. You don't have to like what it stands for. You don't have to like anything about this country, but it is America and that's our flag. You're saying we can't show our own flag, on our own soil, for fear it might offend someone? Not on my watch brother!!

...Let's not kid ourselves. Those kids were being no more patriotic than the televangelist who cajoles widows for money is religious. If anything, the fact that the televangelist is holding a bible when he's soliciting that money only makes him that much more offensive. He's using the bible as a device. People who actually respect the bible would probably be offended that it be used as a device. See how that works?

If this were the other way around, not allowing a child to wear their "other country of origin's flag" on their shirt at school, during some American patriotic celebration, we'd hear nothing but racist remarks and lawsuit from the ACLU.

But let the US flag be worn and we are in the wrong?

It doesn't matter the who's and why's, if the US flag cannot be displayed then there shouldn't be a Cinco de Mayo celebration at school and the principal and school board should be made to publicly explain their actions.

Reading this gives everyone a real taste of what's it's like living on the boarder and why 70% of Arizonans back the new legislation there.

It just isn't relevant. If I wanted to show up at a Mexican festival/party/rally/protest/whatever, on American soil, waving the flag and singing God Bless America, I have the right to do that. I might get shot, but that ain't the point. It's American soil! It's an American flag and I'll show it where I damn well please, least on my own soil.

Edit! In re-reading my post, "I might get shot, but that ain't the point". Well, that's the whole point. If I can't show my flag in my own country without fear of discipline or harm, something has gone very, very wrong in this country.

If they did not, we would not have passed the legislation, etc. that has afforded minority groups legal rights...

I am not talking about the "good old days" of slavery, the way in which early Americans treated the native Americans, the way in which America treated women...those are the dark ages of America.

I am talking about when America became a more civilized country...now the baggers and klannish are longing to go back to the stone age of America...

I doubt they are...

It has more to do with the way in which kids treat other kids, which is nothing new.

Typically a kid will just act out the parents belief systems, so ignorant redneck Fox News watching parents produce the same in their children.

There is generally a natural process of individuation among youth that usually brings all their childhood indoctrination into question, and they often are seen rebelling against the establishments of their youth...but in the case of the right wingers who are mentally defective, odds are they just pass along the genetic defect to their children who never go through the process of individuation and thinking for themselves...

Quote from Arnie:

Why would a Mexican-American, legal or illegal, be offended by the flag of the country he chooses to live in?
