American dependency on food stamps

Quote from Tsing Tao:

FS usage IS up 40%. Record number of citizens ARE on food stamps. They ARE at all-time highs. I'm sorry if those facts don't tell the story you want them to, but they are alarming and need to be carried to the public - even when the main stream media does not want to.

As for whether fraud has grown or grown disproportionately, who knows? That isn't the point. The point is that there is blatant fraud and you can find examples of it everywhere. Different examples.

The only people who can claim SNAP is being run at peak performance - or even in the same solar system as "peak performance" are complete and total idiots, partisan clowns, or folks just trolling for responses. Which one are you, Ricter?
Again, I'm not saying that it is or is not being run at peak efficiency. Therefore I have no reason to let my blood start "boiling".

Quote from Scataphagos:

Yes. I remember seeing people pay at the grocery store with food stamps and thinking, if I were "on" food stamps, how embarrassed I'd feel for everybody around to see I was a ne'er-do-well. Now they just swipe a card like it was Visa and nobody knows the difference... not that being "on" food stamps today bears the stigma it formerly did. Hell, I bet half the people today think that if you're on food stamps "you're SMART... enough to scam the system... good for you!"

I grew up in New York in Long Island near the city line. I remember in the old days most grocery stores had policies that the manager had to come over and approve the use of food stamps for payment.

The cashier would always get on the Mic and loudly page the manager. - "Manager to register 1 for Food stamp approval. We need food stamp approval on register 1. Mr. XYZ, Please come to register 1 for food stamp approval."

The cashiers always made every effort to be deliberatively excessive and embarrass the food stamp payers at every grocery store. Back in those days being on public assistance was considered being the low of the low in every middle class community.

So basically ignore reality at all costs so as not to have to face the fact that big government is not efficient.

Quote from Ricter:

"The trouble with the world is not that people know too little; it's that they know so many things that just aren't so."
- Mark Twain

“It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.”
- Ronald Reagan

Quote from Ricter:

Identifying and cutting waste in any organization costs money. At a certain level of waste your control program ROI is breakeven.

The cutting of fraud in public assistance program is about maintaining the public trust that the programs funded by tax-payers are not being abused. If proper oversight is applied to TANF, SNAP, etc. then the cost of the oversight should cost more than the level of waste - this proves the oversight is effective.

Currently the oversight is lacking and more money must be spent to provide improved oversight of the public assistance programs because the public is losing confidence quickly in these programs and will elect politicians that promise to discontinue the programs - which would be a tremendous loss to the many people who do qualify and really need the programs.

Quote from LEAPup:

...This is why America is LONG overdue for a revolution!!

Never going to happen. LEOs, DHS, and a compliant media will make sure of that.
