I think you are trying to make a counterpoint but you are just reinforcing the first point.
The middle class are destroying themselves by spending too much money. It doesn't matter if wages are stagnant, stop spending. Home prices only went up because the middle class were willing to put themselves in more debt.
The middle class think they are entitled to a cell phone. They are not and cell phones didn't even exist in the mainstream until 12 years ago.
The middle class think they are entitled to cable tv. They are not.
The middle class thinks its low class to buy vodka from a plastic container. So they buy goose for $60. Idiotic
The middle class think they need two new cars in the driveway. They do not.
etc..
Go out and get "Stop acting rich: and live like a real millionaire".
It will show how the middle class destroyed themselves.
Agree with it all, but I'm just making an additional point, and that point is, the middle class aren't the only ones in the game. No, they don't need all those things, but are continually bombarded with the thinly veiled suggestive advertising of what failures they are if they don't have all those things. By the time they figure it out, it's usually too late as they're buried in debt having bought things they didn't need, with money they didn't have, to impress people they don't know. It's a which came first, chicken or egg kind of argument, but in my mind it's pretty obvious the working class aren't the ones driving this scam. In many cases willfully ignorant victims, but victims none the less.
