AMD Bankruptcy or Bounce?

Quote from michaelscott:

Here is the chart. That nasty head and shoulders says it all. AMD has a chance of going to 0 and heading into bankruptcy. Everyone has been dumping this stock like yesterday's news when looking at the OB Vol and A/D line.

There is a weak gap back in 2004 that has been filled and is acting as a support, but then there is another support at 10 and some change. The only other support resides in the 1990s and during 2003. When I have to look that far back for support, I wonder if bankruptcy is a possibility. There has to be something so wrong in the wings when I have to start looking at charts from the 90s to find support and when the A/D line falls into the abyss.

AMD did do a double bottom in the last two days. So I can only conclude that either AMD is a strong buy right now and it will bounce or its going to head lower and into bankruptcy.

Im going to push my chips into the bounce trade. Setting my stop at 12.90. 12.90, no further.

Bankruptcy or bounce?

You cannot project a Head & Shoulders onto the performance of a large company. Do you think seeing a pattern is going to force the direction of the Fundamentals of a company?

A single company's profitability, assets and longterm outlook cannot be diagnosed because you see H&S, pennants or pitchforks.

This is called "wake up and smell the coffee."

Fortrend Securities, a Melbourne based broking house run by some New Yorker had a 'buy' rating on this dog last year in January at $39 LOL

There's one thing you're forgetting.

INTC cannot push AMD into bankrupt.

If they do, then INTC's going to have an anti-trust lawsuit on their asses because they're going to be the only major CPU maker left.

AMD is one dog of a company thats for sure! Are you saying that due to the inepteness of AMD's management if or when they file for Ch11 INTC will get an anti-trust case filed against it?. How unfair!

If AMD goes out of business (which is highly likely once ch 11 is filed), then INTC will be the only one making CPUs for computers, which means they have a monopoly.

They will be sued, and they will be broken up if AMD goes out of business.

A good portion of AMD's current issues stems from one key item - their desktop CPUs are generally speaking not as fast as their Intel counterparts. Intel's "Penryn" line of processors is looking to be good as well.

I think that I have already mentioned this on another thread here on these forums, but I would suggest that anyone interested in investing in either firm should actively read tech news/rumours sites. You will generally speaking know about the performance deals of forthcoming chips long before they impact the financials of either company.

AMD has liquidity issues along with a nasty looking balance sheet, and both will probably deepen soon.

Intel has a huge upper hand going forward: They can give away chips to win market share, if they so chose, because they have so much cash on hand.

The problem is does INTC really want AMD to go out of business? I'm sure it doesn't want FTC to breathe down its neck.

Michael your a bit early.... If your itching to buy it at least wait for 11.90 and place a .25 stop or so. There is lots of resistance above the market still. When it broke below that 15.00 level is was critical. Any rallies up into that area will be sold which would bring it down to the first real support in the 10-10.50 area.

I think 10.55, give or take a few pennies will be the low before the next good size bounce occurs. By bouce I mean a minimum of $3 and a maximum of $10.

I was thinking along the same lines
