Am I Wasting My Time?

I wanted to post this question here. Might be a stupid question, but just trying to look at this from a realistic perspective.

Am I wasting my time chasing the "trade for a living" dream?

I've done countless hours or research and it seems that the only people making real money in this industry are selling their systems or selling their mentoring and coaching services.

Additionally, I took a step back and thought about the potential outcomes and none of them really seem to add up either. The best-case scenario to me would look like I make several thousand for all the time and energy put into it, and that might not even be realistic.

- Trading with only $100k of capital is not even close enough to potentially trade for a living
- No path to raise real money from outside investors in the US with all the SEC red tape.
- No track record
- Lastly and most importantly, I feel that there is barely any edge out there for the retail trader. With all the competition in the market, I find it very hard to believe anybody out there truly makes an income from just trading for a living.

I started my trading education path back in 2011 up until about 2016 then life came around, but recently I've been coming back to the drawing board but this time around knowing what I know now, I am wondering if this is even a realistic path to go down or if I should just stop now and focus my time on something that could pay off more instead of going down the rabbit hole.

Again, this might be stupid, and I am sure I will get a lot of "noob thinks he is going to make millions overnight" or "haven't even traded yet and is already going to quit" type replies but I'm just trying to look at this from a realistic and logical path this time around.

Thanks!

I traded 15 years before I made a profit year-over-year. Since that first profitable year, I have made a profit every year. Last year, I made 138% ROI. Good luck, but don't expect it quickly.

You can net 1 point ES every day. I can't do that. So, you win.
Netting 1 point a day in ES should not be that hard to do. It is a simple scalp. And can be done easy enough on at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the 5 minute bars in the RTH's session. For example; yesterday I could only trade in the last hour of the session as I had company.

Took four trades. Two were averaged down trades. Trading 3 contracts. Two were straight scalps trading 1 contract. All profitable. All winners.

Hehe, am reminded of Dest who said not too long ago he's clammed shut divulging his trades as he's decided no longer to give away hints on his methods.
I'll only say this much, trading is mind boggling simple!
However there is a huge amount of preperation required of anyone to this self discovery of how to achieve.
Seriously, if you gave me one dedicated person, in one week I could train them to trade hugely profitably.
LOL I cherish the idea of spreading around how I scalp. The more I spread it around and the more folks who implement it then the more accurate it becomes. My problem is time. So I have my little journal going to hopefully give a tad bit of pointers. Most folks don’t believe it anyway, so it is probably a waste of time. I spend a lot of hours on that little journal describing in detail. I am currently taking a break from spilling the beans in my journal. But I suppose I will pick it back up at some point.

Why don’t you train tall mike? He seems like he might be dedicated. Plus it is only a week of your time.

That's really cool. My BD won't let me cash in that 3.25 off the chart. Strange.

How is this possible Mickey?!
Do you mean preparation in creating the right mindset or in crunching numbers?

Sooo much negativity as a new trader it may be best for me to stop reading these forums. Most of this cant be good for my trading or psychology in general.

Dude you have a 100k bankroll. Already, ahead of probably +%90 of humans on the planet, let alone being able to invest or gamble (take risks with that 100k). Yet you start off by complaining? About "wasting your time" I am sure there are lots of easier ways to make a living than trading. There is probably few other ways to be able to make $10k in a few minutes with that bankroll (on a good day meaning luck is on your side).

Everyone just wants to cry and pout. Yes I am a ****ing gambler. Not only do I admit it, I OWN IT. and I will be one of the best in the ****ing history books. I even read one poster crying about "yeah well ten year Bull-Market, cry, blah, cry, blah, the algos ! the Renaissance has the Edge!

So yes dude you are wasting your time. Pull your skirt up and go invest in a car wash or something, trading is likely not for you.

Dude whines about negativity and then tells the dude to F off and pull up his skirt. This won’t end well for stockboy.

yeah who knows. you might be right. not if i can help it tho.

but maybe ive been thru a bit more than people who managed to "make it" even tho daddy's money was likely always backing them, than brag about hitting a home run. and im still doing really great considering my odds, thanks God. being able to control my urges in gambling isnt so hard for me as it might be for you however, so we'll see how it "ends".

arent you the 20 year trader, multi-millionaire who pikes a few grand here and there and thinks hes a big shot or something? or am i mistaken?

anyhow I do agree it's not classy nor positive energy to meet negativity with negativity, so instead of embracing the nonsense it would be wiser to distance.

best wishes to all. and remember to become successful, it is very very important to be lucky, so may luck always be on your side :O)
