And, yes, with 4.3 million members of the NRA alone, that we would have more armed citizens than police. I have to give you that one.
The 'ordinary citizens" I guess was taken from my reading about crimes that take place, where most citizens are not armed.
I think your point was as to it would be better to have everyone armed? It's been a while, and I can't find the link quickly.

Criminals shouldn't be armed( they should be dead) but of course they always will be armed. So wouldn't I/we?
brASS hole's whole premise in that thread was that if police can't shoot straight under duress we should not arm private citizens. He even thought he was being cute about it.
I merely pointed that 11% of police shooting involve the wrong people getting shot and only 2% of private citizen shooting involve the wrong person getting shot. The fact is most private gun owners practice their shooting skills more often than most police. Add to that the police often get immunity for mistakes that would land you or I in prison and it's not hard to see why private citizens are more careful and do a better job in shootings than the police, on average.
Your liberal buddy, the one you agree with on most issues, ran like bitch though. Apparently he didn't have the stones for a discussion of the facts and or reality. It didn't fit his preconceived notions. I see this EVERY day and a lot more of it from your political friends than from mine.
I don't like to get into all the personal conflicts on here. Yeah, I know I break my own rules at times, my bad.
I have guns, and conceal carry, which I don't think I really need, but I got it years ago, keep it current etc. I agree that we should only have licensed people with guns, but that old argument about only criminals will have guns, is still pretty true. Way too easy to get a gun IMO.
I don't, the constitution says I don't need a license ergo it IS my license. Or should be anyway. Several states have passed "constitutional carry" laws and several more are considering it.
Criminals don't generally get background checks and guns licenses. Never have and never will. So if expensive cumbersome bureaucratic red tape isn't keeping firearms out of criminal hands, what's it's purpose?

If licenses etc. really made a difference, a documented significant difference. I'd consider it an infringement of the 2nd amendment I could live with. But it makes virtually no difference.
How many of this weekends Chicago shooters used a licensed registered firearm they underwent a background check to purchase?
