I wish i had the time to go back over the past 8 months and compile the posts I've read re: Obama from the right. Even leaving aside those from members whose main problem with Obama is that he's a 'fucking nigger' (and there are quite a few of them on here, as we all know) the tone I have seen is something approaching hysteria. He's being blamed for every conceivable problem, from the economic meltdown to Iran's intransigence to the state of health care. They're questioning whether he's an American citizen (and seriously, Lucrum, can you tell me that you think this is a rational objection?). They're questioning his academic cred (the fucking guy was editor of the Harvard Law Review). They're calling him a Muslim infiltrator. Things that he couldn't possibly have anything to do with are being laid at his black-ass doorstep. That's not 'watching with bemusement'. That's rabid hatred masquerading as politically informed dissent.
Palin is a laughable figure and it's easy to laugh at her. The 'relevant' thing about her, as I said, is that there is an apparently considerable faction within the Republican party that thinks she should be run against Obama in 2012. That's news, no matter how you lean politically.
Possibly you have a different take on it. That's how it looks from here.
By the way and for the record, I'm underwhelmed by Obama's performance so far. It seems to me that he's got a tendency to try not to offend anyone, which is not a good trait in a leader. He's also got a bit too much of a socialist streak for my liking. However, I'm still happy he won, just because I relish the thought of all the hard core racists on here whinging and whining and wondering what ever happened to their beloved White America.

I only looked back over the last two pages of this forum. There are 5 anti BO threads and 12 anti Palin threads.
Bush was literally blamed for causing a tsunami for christ sake. It comes with the office, or at least it did over the last eight years.
Some of his own relatives have publicly stated BO was born in Kenya. If he's got noting to hide then why not just produce a legitimate long form BC? Although personally I think the issue is dead, at least until he runs again.

True enough. And while I would be happier with her as POTUS over BO, Biden or McCain. Personally I'd be very surprised if she's electable. But then what do I know? I doubted BO was electable until late in the campaign.
If in fact she is so laughable then the liberals of the world should have nothing to worry about.
I always base my comments on the assumption that rational observers on different sides of the political fence could agree on some baseline truths.
So I have to ask you - do you really think that someone who thinks Africa is a country is qualified to be President? Really? Seriously?
Do you think that someone who believes (not metaphorically, but literally believes) that the dinosaurs roamed the earth 4,500 years ago is fit to be President? Really? Do you really?
If you tell me you do, it will be a huge letdown for me. I would have thought the baseline would be 'The President has to know that Europe is a continent and not a country'. If you feel differently... well, I guess that after 7 years here there's not much left for me to be surprised at, but this would honestly surprise me, based on what I've read from you. I believe that John McCain knows Europe isn't a country.

To answer your question, do I think she's qualified? Not really, BUT I think as a Governor she's MORE qualified than a one term senator who barely showed up for work. And who wasn't even elected to the senate. He won the seat by having is opponents disqualified. Hence my comment on preferring her to BO, Biden and McCain.
I don't believe I've ever said, given a choice, that she would be my first choice.
And for "the record" I think she made a mistake resigning as Governor.
