Alcohol is much worse for you than you might think

No, but I do not want my precious tax dollars wasted on life support for fat, alcoholic, and addict fucks.

That is unavoidable. There will always be irresponsible behavior (be it dangerous sport activity, etc.) what would harm people. We should raise insurance on them, that is the most you can do about it.

I thought this thread was about longevity and healthy living, not societal justice.

The thing is, you shared it without adding your opinion. Thus we have to assume you agreed with it. When I post a link, you always know which side I am on because I add a comment.
It's a study. Let's see if it has legs. As my other posts would suggest, I don't dismiss them out of hand until I have good reason to do so.

For now, anyway.

Hey, I don't know. But remember when doctors did cigarette ads?

Bottom line, and not to sound too evangelical since I'm an atheist, the things we consume that are not good for us (i.e., tobacco, alcohol, sugar, etc.) age our bodies more quickly, which, in turn, subjects us to age-related maladies earlier in life. I suppose the question comes down to quantity consumed and genetics.

Good points.
EVEN a problem with outlawing a real proven killer like tobacco, follows. USA was founded by tobacco companies.[No i dont smoke anymore]. I would not care if that sounds evangelical /I'm one/Christian.
I had an electrical engineer friend say if they tried to bring sugar in to the food system now it would never pass gov approval. Thanks:caution::caution:

Mormons are one of the longest living groups in the USA. No cigarette, alcohol or coffee. Question is: do you want to live like a Mormon?

My wife does none of those things either, nor booze, she seems to be quite happy eating 90% healthy stuff.
Even the part i consider 10% unhealthy, is still actually very healthy compared to what i eat, she over does it with fruits. Nature's candy, high in sugar.

I eat tend to eat a lot of crap when i feel down and depressed or just out of boredom.

It's a form of Medication.

fruits are actually much, much more that a created natural sugar.
Blueberries, blackberries, and apples................ are brain helpers. And frankly they are still find out good stuff on those. Coke jumped on the big trend with a cane sugar\LOL
My mom , real good with health food + pumpkin pie , sent me load of goodies + good articles .
THEY love her @ USPO; she prefers love + flower stamps:D:D

Despite ongoing gaslighting by the alcohol industry it is clear that alcohol acts as a poison on the body, provides no health benefit whatsoever, and is addictive. Addicts don't want to hear it though so they will rationalize their behavior in whatever way their cognitive dissonance requires. Perhaps this particular study is flawed, or perhaps it isn't, but arguing about it is just a distraction from what you already know...
Huh??

The Unbearable Dryness of Being a non Drinker...
There's definitely some truth to that. I stopped drinking for a couple of months last year and it was amazing how I changed. All of sudden, even the thoughts of social events that inevitably involved other people drinking (which happen virtually every day where I live) seemed borderline intolerable. And even if I did decide to make an appearance at one of them, I was always the first one to leave. Conversations that I could previously carry on with certain people for a long time all of sudden felt unbearable after a few short minutes.

Now on the flip side of that, the positive was that I obviously never woke up feeling the effects of the night prior. So there were definitely mornings when my wife was hurting and I was buzzing around the house with max energy. But here's the thing. I was never the guy that had a desire to keep the partying going all night long anyway. For me, I've always had an internal regulator that says "Ok, I'm about over drinking and socializing for tonight. I'm done".

So then I go home, drink 16oz of water, take a couple of liver supplements, and then take another 16oz of water with me to bed in case I wake up to pee and then still feel thirsty after that.

So for me, yeah I can say without hesitation that I can be pretty boring in social situations when I'm not drinking. And during that couple of months of going dry, I learned why exactly that is. What alcohol enables me to do is basically be conversational about uninteresting topics in real-time because that's pretty much what most people want to talk about. Topics like local news, politics and sports are just not topics that interest me very much and if I'm completely sober, I will be bailing on the conversation quick. But if I have a little buzz going, I will sit there for significantly longer and do my best to accommodate whatever the current topic is.
