I agree. People keep focusing on the prostitution and adultery part which is a personal issue for Spitzer in my opinion. However, the financial stuff is what he should really worry about. I feel like he really thought he was above the law otherwise why would he be so brazen for so long. Also, he was a long-time fighter of organized crime and corruption but who exactly runs and profits from most of the high end escort services? It's about the money not the sex.
When you want to move 10 grand and don't want your bank to report the transaction to the IRS and you move it in 3 smaller chunks so they won't file a SAR report that is red flag central. Oh and just for good measure, Spitzer apparently asked a bank employee to remove his name from transfer after the fact. LMAO.
Yeah, I agree that USA has some stupid laws but then again I don't have a law degree from Harvard so what do I know.

your own if you just have the opportunity. suddenly
a clean man appears to be a man who is just using
"cleanness" as his route to get where all the other
guys are heading ... and some jobs depend upon ...

Politics is a strange business. Spitzer must look at guys like Clinton, Barney Frank, David Vitter, et al and wonder how they can skate by on stuff that is at least as bad as what he did, yet he gets the axe. Part of it is the hypocrisy aspect, part of it is he used up all his political capital on that earlier scheme to embarrass republican lawmakers and part of it is that a lot of powerful people despise him. Other than Alan Dershowitz, not too many people rushed to support him. That is a critical factor. Clinton got Gore to stand by him, then used his surrogates to make Ken Starr the issue. It was despicable, but it worked. The irony is Al Gore would have served out Clinton's term and been elected on his own if he had done the right thing and refused to give Clinton cover.

Spitzer made a lot of enemies in his job as crimefighter - a lot of powerful enemies. He knew he was making enemies while he was partying it up with the call girls, and he knew partying it up with call girls is illegal. Not a smart thing to do, even though Spitzer's a smart man. Gotta wonder if he's getting exactly what he wanted. (Kind of like the trader who never learns to cut his losses)
