This is my 4th day trading futures. After 3 days, I was up 6%...I made one stupid trade tonight, without a stop, and gave it all back then some.

I have a good eye for price action in some stocks I watch, but have no feel for the futures yet. But I feel that in the long run, I need to learn futures.

Oh well...

Why would you ever enter an order without also placing a protective stop?? What is your reasoning here?

Maybe you should try using a simulator for a while.... and perhaps use a program that will put in the stops automatically for you.

I had a stop, but kept moving it...is what I meant to say. My previous trades were all quick scalps and I decided to try to let this one run with a larger stop overall. I was in the money and got greedy, then got stupid.

Ahhh.... Greed -- yeah, been there done that... It's all about discipline now isn't it?

Easier said than done....

Also check your preferences on your chart and make sure you have the update setting to update on every tick not some predetermined time value. With this set I see the chart update very quickly with each tick.
I set my T&S to take every tick, but the chart I left on 250mS, the real problem is the NT OpenTick combo, trying to reload the chart inside a fast market after the stream goes down. After a while it just wouldn't even come back up, it tries to reload the days ticks and well, it's a bit of a mess. OpenTick is still a WIP which I understand, but NJ has some quirks as well, as long as markets aren't hairy, they both work pretty well. When the s hits the fan, all hell breaks loose! LOL

I just marked a chart up with some hindsight trades from monday, from the open until 1:30.

Would appreciate it if anyone familiar with AHG would take a look and see if these trades are bad, or if I missed any AHG opportunities.

Also, I put a few questions about exits on it. Thanks!

Yes...It is so tempting to not listen to your own rules. But really, that should be easy. As Anek says, fill the bucket.

So I went back to the quick scalp method this morning, and made a couple points off trendline bounces and breakdowns. For now, I will be content with a point or two until I learn more. So since I started, I am +$12 including commissions.

gm.

You are most probably neither greedy or stupid and you are probably not lacking in discipline.

The problem is that you simply do not know what you are doing and you will not fix this state with discipline.

Put simply, you are most probably unaware of that which you are unaware of.

You need to start at the very beginning by turning off all indicators and just watch the price interact with the T&S.
Set your filter >99 to simply things for yourself.
Do not assume anything, just watch.

As always, discard this message if it doesn't suit.

Anek would be proud...ES broke a few day downtrend hitting 1454.25. I waited for the magic tick of 1454.50 (with Volume) and put an order in at 1454.

I listend to my rules from my earlier loss and took a quick 2 point profit, because I haven't watched the ES enough to know it...but I have a sneaky feeling I left some money on the table. We will see.
