How is the indice movement compared to the futures? Reason I ask is because I don't know how long it takes for them to get arbed and even if there are redundancies selling pressure in one can forecast one in another (even if theoretically they should get sold at same time)

I am not sure I understand your question. Let me give it a shot though. A high percentage of the time the indexes will move lock step with the futures aka e minis. The arb process I believe is instantaneous almost. You are talking about ppl trading off of a black box in a lot of cases. Program trading. Hopefully, this answer your questions. If you want to check this get the ADD the advancing over decliners and compare to the NQ, most often they move lock step.

Not sure if I understand your question? I use 500 and 1000 for the NQ and 20000 to see big picture and today I had ES up with 2500 so that i could test out how confirmations work back and forth.

I have an indicator running that tells me how many contracts left before bar prints, is that what you mean?

yes, that is what I mean.

8 trades

Only 2 winners
So 6 losers

But I'm still green 6.25 (after commission)!

AHG works like a charm it's just going to take a lot of screen time and effort to become consistant.

All my effort is going into those entries now. And they are improving. Next learning loop will be about stops.

Today was very violent, I dont like these days. I have a very small account so would prefer more modest stops and targets.

PS: Took 20 points on one winner and still exited to early.

R,

On a day like today and initial stop loss of 4 points makes sense, but on any normal volatility day I don't use a stop loss greater than 2 points. And that is just the initial stop loss entered as an OCO. I usually get away with moving to about 1.5 points on a normal day (not today). I always try to move my stop loss up as quickly as possible, trying to get it to b/e. I trail the previous bars low, but sometimes if I get in at the start of a trend, i give it a little more wiggle room for the initial retrace.

My average losers today have been about 2 points with none greater than 3.75. On a normal day it's about 1 point. This is because I move my stop loss as quickly as possible. I am a rookie as stated before, but I have found that this has helped me. I use to let my initial stop get hit a lot. Very rare anymore.

Agreed my max 4 point stop is very big and in most cases I place it closer to my entry. Today was an exception. I had an 8 point stop in 2 trades (1 winner & 1 loser).

I tend to get stopped rather frequent so experimenting with a little bigger stops.

I'm having the same problem of getting my stops hit with this volatility. I find I'm doing better with a 3000 & 5000 volume chart than a 1500vol chart. Also I use a 50 bar avg true range to see if my stops are appropriate for the smaller volume charts.

Anek,

I have been reading this thread for some time now. I have been using this method to profitably trade 1 NQ contract.

Today was my best day +$448 net of commissions.

I just wanted to say thanks.

Make that $624. Thx again!

I normally trade 2 contracts on the sim, but today and some of yesterday I traded only 1 contract. This was so I could widen my stops but maintain the same amount of risk. And today I actually did better fake money wise than I normally do with 2 contracts.

I want to thank the regulars for ignoring and not quoting the trolls when they show up and try to disrupt the journal. All of the recent garbage has been removed and that alias has been banned. This is an excellent thread and I will not let it be trashed. Keep up the good work guys.
