Age Restrictions on Prop Firms?

It is a matter of state property law. As a Class B members of a firm (which is what most prop firm setups are), you technically own property. In New York/New Jersey for example, you must be an adult 18+ years of age.

There may also be an in house rule component to the age minimum requirement at a firm.

In addition to being able to sign a contract legally, each broker dealer has Written Supervisory Procedures-WSP- that must be approved by their regulator. It is likely they decided to place a requirement higher than 18 to get approval or just to protect themselves.
