For someone not as well connected as you are, how do I aquire these annual letters? Are they available in my local library? Or do I have to write to get them from Berkshire directly?

Before signing up for some guru service or training, I'd advise checking with the CFTC and NFA. A lot of the heavily advertised guys have been hit with enforcement actions for fraud. Typically, they claim to be highly succesful trading their system when inreality they either didn't trade at all, were losers or had no records to substantiate their claims. Also, the historical records of systems vendors can be fudged by reoptimizing repeatedly then presenting the optimized results as though it were obtained in real time.
I'm not saying you can't make money with a system. Actually, I think you can. But it might require a bigger bankroll and bigger tolerance for drawdown than many are prepared to accept.
