I want to comment on Dr. Elder's books. I don't think they are advanced or even intermediate by any means. My first book was 'Trading for a Living', and I am glad that it was. I understood a lot about a trader's mindset while also learning about basic technical indicators. So, Dr. Trader, if you like, that book could be a good start for you as well.
There are several books out there on technical analysis as well as several good courses. I would suggest you devour the technical analysis websites first. There are some very good ones out there that teach you almost all kind of tech analysis. Type "technical analysis" in google.
Talking of Tharp books, "Financial freedom through electronic daytrading" is a very good book for daytrading stocks (if that's what you want to do). Also check out Trading in the Zone (Douglas).
Good luck.
P.S. I seem to recall a fellow who started daytrading futures with his life savings of $2000. 15 minutes later we heard a loud bang; turned out he had thrown his computer out the window and had gone totally insane. The neighbours admitted him to the asylum. His only request was that he get one computer and constant access to elitetrader.com. Come to think of it.. I believe he went by the name spitfire?
