Oh, come on, nitro. The PT is a blatant "look at me" car. But not because it has any redeeming features or qualities. Rather, because its hair is green and it has a nose ring. People who drive those cars are seeking attention, and that is there prerogative. But is that the kind of attention you want?

Is this based on your experience with the Big Cats or just a prejudice?
Before Ford got its hands on Jaguar, it was at least a good looking car. Is it any more reliable now?

Actually it is. You won't loose one of your front- or back lights these days, less than twenty yards from the dealer. In the 70's and 80's this was quite common. Part of the charm of owning a British car, some said. I beg to differ.

I assure you that is not at issue. Look at the link supplied on one of the posts above regarding it's reliability as a used car, which I reproduce below. Looks has nothing to do with my decision making. In fact, I am considering a car that I think is butt ugly but has everthing I desire, the Scion xB.

For the money, the PTC competes on all categories that matter to me:

1) Reliabilty
2) Room
3) Gas mileage
4) Value
5) Cabin noise
6) Comfort

Got conned into one by AVIS at the DFW airport once as a rental, me thinking it was another car.

Joke of an experience. Shook, rattled and rolled. And this had 6000mils on it. Sight lines were bad and it definitely felt as though I was in a "Tin Can." I was terribly freaked that I had loved ones in the car with me. Scared to death of a bump from another car on the N. Central Exprsway (75N).

I'd never drive one again.....especially if others were with me.

Word to wise: please update your Disability and/or Life Insurance before spending any time in this car.

Caveat: I am spoiled by my choice of ride.

Before you go spend your hard earned money on any other car (specially a PT Cruiser!!!) take a look at the 2006 Honda Civic.

Totally redesigned and probably the safest and the most dependable with the best gas mileage and best resale value down the road imo...

Thanks for the reply.

I couldn't agree more. This would be the perfect car if they made a wagon or hatch out of it for the same price.

Gonna test drive it tomorrow.

Quote from Sparohok:

The Brazilians are very successful producing ethanol from sugar as a transporation fuel. Their total costs are under $1/gallon. Corn is a much less energy efficient feedstock for producing ethanol. The US corn ethanol industry is a product of intense lobbying by ADM.

Martin

How are they able to produce much cheaper ethanol? Is it sugar based ethanol that much cheaper?

BTW, for the record I recommend Honda CR-V.

I finally caved in tonight when I got stuck in 1" of snow in my parking space, couldn't get out and ended up dinging my stang on a firehydrant

I went out and leased a brand new '05 of this car:

http://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/ModelHomePage/0,,127581,00.html?destination=VLP&modelName=murano

Why?

1) Great deal
2) 95% made in Japan (I am 97% sure I will buy the car out at the end of the lease if it turns out to be a good car)
3) Drives great
4) Ok gas mileage (21/26)
5) Has all the options I need
6) The people I worked with were great and really wanted to do business with me (If you live in Chicago area and are looking at a Nissan, PM me)
7) It was on the best of this list: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/used-cars/used-cars-best-and-worst-405.htm
