An exchange where the issue is listed for trading has a minimum number of MMs requirement.

Therefore, by default, if the exchange uses a definition of "adequate", it would be the bare minimum necessary for acceptable trading operations. A market participant may have more stringent standards and/or requirements than the bare minimum. So to answer your question... no.

"Adequate Number of Market Makers" is just a heading in that article, not exchange terminology.

If we go with your informed opinion and work with your conclusion of "no" to the question "Could all of the stocks on NYSE/AMEX/NASDAQ be assumed to have an adequate number of market makers?", then is there an online source that the unwashed masses can view that ranks or at least discloses the number of market makers associated with stocks on NYSE/AMEX/NASDAQ?

Which MM reveals themselves these days? Multiple ECN switching has made chasing the Ax a dead end. Volume and price are all we got left from 90s day and swinging.

YES, ''adequate'' because average volume + such, is more important than ''# of market makers.'' But i would not consider that one page link '' adequate'' @ all for sing trading[ or swing trading]/LOL:D:D
NO matter the numbers of mm, wide spread options will never have a small bid \ask spread like MSFT, or SPY, specialists............................
And for the stocks with wide bid ask, few mm, good reasons for that.

If a similar approach is used as a gauge of MM numbers vs "adaquate", and if institutional sponsorship is assumed to provide enough honey do draw MM's in adaquate numbers, then could Accumulation/Distribution Rating be used as a Twice removed proxy for
