My neighbor is a neurologist and his 19 yo daughter takes it, she has dramatically improved her ability to focus at work and in school. The fact that you, for some reason, are against long term use of medication should have absolutely no bearing on whats best for him. You are not a doctor.
I know a few adults that take ADHD medication for life bcuz its the only way they can be truly productive in life. Ppl with ADHD have brains wired differently and they're brains will ALWAYS be like that. So pleeez, with all due respect to you as a father, for the sake of your son, keep your personal opinions out of it , and let the specialists(neurologists) treat him with what will help him lead a more focused, productive life.........even if it means him taking meds for the rest of his life.
Thank you southbeach, although I am not a doctor I am my sons best advocate. You have to understand that every kid with adhd or on the spectrum is different from each other. To say it works great on his daughter doesnt say much as to how it will work on my son. My opinion on longterm usage of medication is due to the side affects that may come about from it. Remember Just cause a Doctor says one thing doesnt necessarily mean it is the correct way to go. He has not spoken to one teacher nor has he been in class with my son day in and day out to make such a determination. Recently I had a meeting with my sons teachers and they told me that while he may not be entirely focused on the material , he can easily be redirected back to it if he starts to day dream. In other words it is not something that is detremental to his progress at least now. Thank you for taking the time to post...Ill keep u guys posted.
