Activists project Trump vs. Obama approval ratings on Tower of London during state visit

A British activist group projected the country's approval ratings of President Trump and former President Obama on the Tower of London during Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom.

"Led By Donkeys," a progressive, anti-Brexit activist group, posted a photo of the projection on Twitter, which shows Obama's approval rating at 72 percent and Trump's at 21 percent in the U.K.

So far, the photo has been retweeted by thousands of Twitter users.

Led By Donkeys has previously used projections to promote certain causes. In April, the group projected a massive "SOS" signal on the White Cliffs of Dover, urging leaders to let U.K. voters have the final say on Brexit.

The approval rating numbers on the projection cite current data from YouGov.

How Popular is Donald Trump in the U.K.? President's Favorability Rating Far Lower Than Barack Obama's



United Kingdom residents have an overwhelmingly unfavorable view of President Donald Trump, with recent polls showing only 21 percent of Great Britain having a positive opinion of the United States leader.

Political opinion data from YouGov U.K. shows Trump, who is visiting the U.K. this week with his family, ranks only behind former President Barack Obama in terms of fame. But among U.K. residents surveyed between May 2018 and April 2019, two-thirds had a negative opinion of Trump, compared to only 11 percent who felt that way about Obama. The 45th and current president of the U.S. ranks 7th among the most popular foreign politicians in the U.K., just between Pakistan's Imran Khan and former U.S. President George W. Bush.

Trump's visit comes at a politically tumultuous time in England, amid the Brexit split from the European Union and British Prime Minister Theresa May leaving her post in July.

The YouGov survey data reveals only 21 percent of U.K. residents had a positive opinion of Trump, compared to Obama, who had a staggering 72 percent favorable rating.

Meghan Markle a no-show at banquet for Trump after ‘nasty’ comment


Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was a no-show at the Buckingham Palace banquet for President Trump’s state visit to England on Monday, after the president called the former American actress “nasty” in an interview with a British newspaper.

Markle, who is married to Prince Harry, is on maternity leave after giving birth to their first child, Archie, earlier in May.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of Prince William, was in attendance at the banquet as were Trump’s adult children.

The American-born Markle also missed a royal luncheon at the palace with Trump and first lady Melania Trump earlier Monday – although Harry attended.

It’s unclear if Harry attended the banquet, and his name did not appear on a list of attendees.

In an interview with The Sun published on Saturday, Trump was asked about Markle referring to him as “misogynistic” and “divisive” and her claim that she would move to Canada if he was elected president in 2016.

“I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty,” he said, according to the newspaper.
