If I understand you correctly, I don't think that will work. Normally, you can't take the image from another computer and do anything with it on a different computer (unless both have the same mobo and BIOS). IOW... the Acronis images you made on your blown-up computer are probably not usable. I think the most you can salvage would be to put your hard drive from the D8300 into your external drive enclosure and copy files/photos to your newer computer.

if you installed acronis to new PC and connect external drive with your backups to it -you should be able to restore files from this back up using NOT BOOT disk,but installed acronis,that sits on your new PC.
can you do that? if you can't-why? errors,messages?
when you connect that external HD-can you see it on your new PC? i mean-the hard drive itself,along with back up files
I could be wrong, but...
1. If you're saying "connect external drive with images from old computer... to restore to new computer"... I don't think that will work properly. Different mobo, BIOS, etc. Such a restoration attempt might look like it worked only to find some/many things don't work as they should. But hey, try it and see... nothing to lose in the attempt except time.
2. The "restore image" function is supposed to work the same running either from Windows or from boot disk. Unfortunately, many Acronis users used to complain about the restoration not working from within Windows (could be Acronis has fixed that in subsequent versions, however)... and my experience with that was intermittent... sometimes yes, sometimes no. So, I started restoring images only from the boot disk and have had zero failures since.

i never said-restore computer. of course it won't work. i'm saying that using acronis ,that was already installed on new PC OP should be able to access and restore certain FILES from this external hard drive,not the whole thing

here is an example. note that backup file was sitting on external HD, that was connected not even directly to this computer, on which i'm typing this message,but on totally different PC, that sits on same network. even on this setup i was able to access and restore FILES or maybe even whole PC.

I do have the external drive attached to the newer PC. I can see the backups files. There are system backups, email backups and apllication backups. I am unable to open any of them, or do a system restore to a partion on the HD. I am trying a reinstall of the Acronis, as it was spitting up a failure error message and offered to look to the internet for a solution or close.
