Accounting Software for Trading Portfolio

Does anyone know of a software that will build accounting style financials for your trading portfolio?

That is it will take your portfolio, trades, inflows/outflows and construct
  1. Opening Balance Sheet
  2. Closing Balance Sheet
  3. Income Statement
  4. Cashflow statement
 
For our institutional clients, we offer Nirvana Reports. I emailed you samples. They do the first 3. I'm not sure what a Cashflow statement would look like.

That's what I do. After building and selling two prior non-trading businesses. Just transferred/modified over to trading format. Took some doing, but worth it for sure.

how did you do it? In excel or some other software ?

how do you treat options? A buy write requires margin (like buying a machine on a loan) vs a short put which is like an off balance sheet asset.

In Excel you can make an unlimited list of rules.
If "buywrite" then "margin".
If "short put" then "off balance".


I built in past several complex spreadsheets with a lot of" if then else" filters.
If you are a good in Excel you can build almost anything.

Technically building it isn't my challenge.

It's handling the accounting stuff - like managing deffered taxes and determining how to treat the balance sheet items. I don't believe Long Securities - short securities = Equity is the right way to do it given the example above.

It is clear that if you want to build something, you should have all the information, rules, exceptions, etc... Not just the trading stuff, but also the fiscal stuff...

You need help from a good account/bookkeeper or you will never get what you want. I think that what you wish is so specific that there is no standard package that can cover your needs. The potential market to sell the software is too small.
