I just happened to be in Russia controlled Crimea when I logged in to my account... not realizing that Russia has sanctions deep in its ass that may affect you too? That's what sanctions are for ffs.
As for the other article, yeah, I get it, governments create rules that we don't all like. Guess what, vote for someone that will implement rules you like and hope enough of you want the same thing to overturn the ones you don't like. That's called democracy.
The fact is, government sets rules to prevent capital flight from those who avoid taxes or have dirty income. The net grabs many people who are clean as a whistle and the rules impact their lives negatively. These people should speak up at election or directly with their political representative to tweak the rule. If they don't it's on them. But it's important to recognize the rule's intent.
