‘We Have to Go Spend Money to Keep From Going Bankrupt’

Quote from Scataphagos:

Duh! Responsibility for the budget rests with the House. The Prez can "request" till the cows come home...

The president can also veto. Plus, congress doesn't write, it amends.

Here's the way it's worked:

Republican president + Democratic congress = deficit

Republican president + Republican congress = deficit

Democrat president + Republican congress = lower deficit or balanced budget

Democrat president + Democrat congress = lower deficit

"You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter." -- Dick Cheney

We shall see if this experiment in Keynesianism works (so far so good), but it's worth noting the following:

* The twenty years of budgets prepared by Republican presidents increased the national debt by $3,800,000,000,000. The average yearly deficit under Republican budgets was $190 billion.

* The twenty years of budgets prepared by Democratic presidents increased the national debt by $719,500,000,000. The average yearly deficit under Democratic budgets was $36 billion.

I love the way you left out Obama's first 6 months and his deficit. When you include that, it kind destroys your whole argument. I would expect nothing less from you.

You can see the "Obama" entry on the graph denoted by the amount above the horizontal line.

Additionally, you're probably thinking of budget projections, as the 2009 budget year was written in 2008.

Your insults grow tiring.

Obama is planning on running up 10T of deficits during his term alone and you seem to think that you have of an argument that the 3.8T that all combined republican presidents have done is worse.

I don't know where that argument sells, but it doesn't sell here.

Where is Obama's $787 billion pork bill quoted in the 2008 projection?

Okay, please show us where Obama is "planning" on running up 10 trillion of deficits during his term. You're likely confusing the national debt, which is $11 trillion or more with the deficit.

I don't know where that argument sells, but it doesn't sell here.

True, because any facts are countered with absolute nonsense.

Quote from Scataphagos:

The ONLY way that can occur.... is we get a "start over".. but that entails nearly EVERY American goes bankrupt first. You, your parents, your children... do you want to cope with that?

There's a big difference between what I want and what is likely to happen. Allow me to demonstrate. I want Elle Macpherson to be under my desk ready to do my bidding, but that's only slightly more likely to happen than voters waking up realizing that:

TANSTAAFL

Google it.

Maybe its from the CBO.

Its part of the White House? The CBO is the Congressional Budget Office. Explain how the Congressional Budget Office is part of the White House.
