As the clear winners in that struggle for N. America, I think we're in a position of strength and wealth sufficient to grant a name change to those losers. It costs us nothing, though maybe it offends someone's sense of ideological purity. Hopefully their pride is strong enough to stand it.

Billy Jack, what a great memory, that movie. Inspiration for martial arts (but as inspirational as Bruce Lee?) Tom Laughlin, kicking native-hater ass. Hapkido if I recall correctly. I always filed that style away in memory, for the cane techniques, which I figured I'd want someday. Not there yet, thankfully. : )

Whether anyone likes it or not, the European settlers that came to the Americas won the battles with the Natives, and took their land. They own the land, and are the dominant population on this continent.

The native tribes were conquered by a superior military force.... a fact of life throughout man's history.

If the tribes had been capable, they would have killed all the European settlers/invaders... and the Europeans would have eventually stopped trying to colonizing North America.

But that's not how it worked out. Could have been worse, too. The invaders could have killed ALL the tribe members.... and we'd never be having any of these discussions.
