•Swine Flu May Infect Half of Population in U.S., Kill 90,000, Study Says

Is this prediction similar to the one how the U.S. was supposed to be facing like 2,000,000 percent inflation over the last few months?

You nailed it.
White House advisers/// staffers playing head games to scare up support for socialized medicine.

Quote from Banjo:

It's the White House fear factor trying to get health care public participation over the hump.

The problem with this tack is it might very well come true.
WH Health advisors are positing the theory that clinics and hosptitals could be stretched to capacity, and more.
Again, it's not the mortality rate, it's the "get sick" rate that could hurt us.
We just don't have that many respirators in the US, should a few too many cases come down with more than a "mild strain" of this bugger.

Let's say Palin's fantasy comes true and this gets so bad they set up death panels. Then she comes down with swine flu. Does she get a thumbs up or thumbs down?

I personally agree with that Australian doctor that came out about 2 months ago. He had a theory that h1n1 was a mistake that got released into the general population.

It was a virus that was preserved in egg, that constitutes properties of a genetically engineered virus.

That's why governments globally are so fearful of it, they know it is very easily transmissible, and can jump species easily.

"influenza deaths for 2002 is estimated at 753, and the final total for 2001 is 257. This means that the number of deaths from the flu -- which should have been about 72,000 for the two years combined -- was only about 1,010."

WTF?

CDC reports 36,000 influenza related deaths per year.

What are flu-related deaths?

Flu-related deaths are deaths that occur in people for whom influenza infection was likely a contributor to the cause of death, but not necessarily the primary cause of death.
Does CDC know the exact number of people who die from flu each year?

CDC does not know exactly how many people die from flu each year. There are several reasons for this: First, states are not required to report individual flu cases or deaths of people older than 18 years of age to CDC. Second, influenza is infrequently listed on death certificates of people who die from flu-related complications [12]. Third, many flu-related deaths occur one or two weeks after a person’s initial infection, either because the person may develop a secondary bacterial co-infection (such as a staph infection) [1,8,11] or because influenza can aggravate an existing chronic illness (such as congestive heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) [3]. Also, most people who die from flu-related complications are not tested for flu, or they seek medical care later in their illness when influenza can no longer be detected from respiratory samples. Influenza tests are only likely to detect influenza if performed within a week after onset of illness. For these reasons, many flu-related deaths may not be recorded on death certificates. These are some of the reasons that CDC and other public health agencies in the United States and other countries use statistical models to estimate the annual number of flu-related deaths. (Flu deaths in children were made a nationally notifiable condition in 2004, and since then, states have been required to report flu-related child deaths in the United States through the Influenza Associated Pediatric Mortality Surveillance System).

This is not directed at Papa-Roach...

There are too many nut cases in this thread about some kind of scare tactic by the president' council. This is a prudent estimate of the possible outcomes. If there were a terror alert that possibly some 90,000 American could die from an attack, would you not want to know about it and be prepared for it?

Swine flu may infect half the U.S. population this year, hospitalize 1.8 million patients, and lead to 90,000 deaths, according to a report by White House advisers.

The operative word is...."may".
I'm getting to be kind of an old dog, so I remember the last time this came up. More people died from the vaccine than the flu, and a whole bunch of people suffered terrible side effects as well. For a little blast from the past check out the 60 Minutes piece.

Beware politicians selling snake oil.

Regular flu kills 36K, a year!

Swine flu is nothing.

I am not worried. Nor will I take the shot.

The shot contains mercury, induces GBS-syndrome in a moderate sample, and has no long or medium-term trials that back its safety in humans!!

Recently, the UK Health Agency leaked a memo it sent to the nations top neurologists that the impending swine flu vaccine could cause neurological disorders on the variety of GBS and to be watchful.

Yea, okay. Vaccinate away. Just make sure Children under 10 get all 3 shots!
