its self inflicted. when gun owners turn a blind eye to the carnage other gun owners cause by refusing any common sense measures to keep guns out of the hands of nuts they should not be surprised when the potential targets build a wall around themselves.

Yep. What comes next is a massive de-funding of the military/industrial complex in order pay for socialism. Obama has already almost killed the American aerospace industry. Now the military itself will be drastically cut until we are no longer able to defend ourselves.

Our end is going to look remarkably like the end of the Roman Empire except we'll be nuked instead of being overrun by the Visigoths.

In the real world, government is neither the 'problem' or the 'solution'. Let's have a real talk and start off with the understanding that government is necessary for a lot of things. Only in this way can we have a constructive debate.

this is another thing that bugs me. Any time a politician supports the idea that we try to do something to take care of our poor, and provide them with basic services....that politician is labeled a 'socialist'. Come on. Yes, you have a point. It can be taken too far and the whole system can fall apart. If you tax the rich too much, and reward the poor too much....that's just not going to work. But the system also doesn't work if we totally neglect the poor. You will have revolution, or at the very least, a really shitty society. The answer is to find the right balance. We do that by having a real debate that doesn't try to discredit the opposing viewpoint. Both sides of the political isle have this same problem. Obama, to his credit, is pretty good about staying in the middle, which is why he has enemies on both sides. But listen to him talk some time. He constantly reminds us that both sides have merit in their viewpoint, and what we need to do is find the right middle ground.

Some government is necessary. But when you have a country as big as the US it reigns over a vast diversity of people and it centralizes the decision-making and therefore it centralizes the real wealth.

IMO the people of the US could stand to benefit by breaking up the country into the individual states.
