I remember reading years ago in James Clavell's Shogun that one of the key characters, probably Toranaga, who went on to become Shogun, said to Blackthorne, the protagonist, that a plain-looking wife made for a happier marriage. Something along those lines. I remember the remark giving me pause.I just saw this cover and thought, I know a few fellas who will remember it.
