Quote from lilduckling:
they are used for cell repair along with several other process. The rate depends on what type of proteins (different proteins dont all have the same amino acids. Soy does not contain the complete chain of amino acids, beef does, etc. In todays modern diets, most of the protein is stored as fat or ends up in the toilet.
any other questions?
Duckster,
Sorry for the delay in responding to your post but I was in transit. You know, London âZurich-Abu Dhabi-Zurich-â¦.
Anyhows, itâs pretty clear you have an advanced degree or two, in what I donât know, but maybe a few more questions might help me find out.
But first the answer to my question (vide supra) is that proteins are digested after they are ingested. And to what are they digested? Why amino acids of course. You are quite correct that the absorbed amino acids are used to replenish âold proteinsâ - the transcription/translation thingy. Did you say that? Somehow I got the idea you were saying that âmeat proteinsâ (sic) made the testosterone go up but that doesnât make any sense since weâre talking about whatâs left after digestion and whether itâs meat or soy or yeast the a.a. proportions are rather similar:

Furthermore since far and away the major muscle protein is myoglobin, even if the whole 16kD were absorbed en masse (which of course it isnât), itâs hard to see why this protein should cause testosterone production to increase. If testosterone were present in the âmeatâ it would be rapidly catabolized by the liver (thatâs why âillegalâ steroids must be injected).
You also said that âmeatâ proteins are bad for the heart and arteries. How so? Whatâs the mechanism of that effect given that what we're talking about is a.a.'s?
Your last 3 sentences boggle the mind especially the 90% figure for the apportionment of nature vs nurture. Where did you come up with that one? The last sentence sounds like a Calvinistic view of life which is just great but I don't see what it has to do with science.
