A sad day for journalism, Bill O'Reily retires

They need someone with some moxy. Tucker's not gonna work. Too boyish. Bret Bair is a good journalist.... but too boooring.
They need an outspoken person,... but they must have a commanding voice. Voice is everything, and OReilly fans need a certain type to stay. Hume could do it with some intense makeover and good writers. Maybe.

They could always give that nut job Limbaugh a bigger audience. Or that "comedian" miller fella

I see no reason that Lady Gaga can't fill in, and do an even better job of representing what it was that O'Reilly represented, whatever that was. Does anyone know? Has an offer gone out yet to Lady Gaga? Why not just hire her?

The supremacy of traditional white culture.

They will be at 9, Tucker moved to O'Reilly's old slot.

Murdoch's idiot sons are kidding themselves if they believe this isn't going to kill their numbers. A percentage of O'Reilly's core viewers will leave and not come back. How big, I can't say, but I think it will be on the order of 25%. They are loyal to him, not Fox. So Tucker will be hurt as well, since he got a big leadin audience from O'Reilly. And The Five? Five morons are not going to cut it at the premier 9:00 slot.
Tucker is great at debating people and that is it. Hannity just repeats himself constantly and treats his TV show like it is a radio show just killing the clock until his hour is up. Tucker, Hannity and everyone else at Fox News simply react to headlines and stories they find on Drudge Report. O'Reilly had the ability to focus on stories that common everyday conservatives cared about that were ignored by the MSM (like illegal immigration). O'Reilly was talking about illegal immigration and Kate's Law well before Trump came around.

O'Reilly was making fun of the crazy PC culture well before the terms SJW and "Snowflake" came about. O'Reilly was talking about Islamic Immigration well before there were any conflicts in Syria and massive outflows of refugees. Now Fox News will be nothing but a bunch of uninspired people reacting to headlines off of Drudge and collecting a paycheck while pretending to be conservative. The ratings go straight down from here across the network and expect constant time slot changes with shows coming and going.

O'Reilly is an alpha male. He appealed to the older male demographic that is Fox's bread and butter. His competitors on MSNBC and CNN were a lesbian and a homo, so he did not face any real competition for his demo.

Fox's only other fulltime alpha is Eric Bolling. He is something of a novice at politics. To retain O'Reilly's audience, they need another alpha or a smoking kickass girl.

It appears the Murdoch boys are set to make what I would call the NASCAR mistake. That happens when consultants convince you the way to grow is to broaden your appeal beyond your traditional audience. To do that, they advise, you have to smooth off the rough edges and become less controversial. Unfortunately, it is tough to pull that off without losing what attracted your audience in the first place. You end up with a boring, generic product that annoys your legacy audience and fails to register with the demographic you are targeting.

Having stupidly shitcanned their bellcow, the Murdochs now face a real crisis. Their first attempt at solving it, sticking the Five program in the 9:00 slot, seems laughable. They either need to find a credible O'Reilly replacement or go way outside the box in a move that will generate a lot of buzz. I just do not see another O'Reilly, hence I say go with a young girl like Tomi. Sink or swim, at least it won't be boring.

They could swing for the fences and go after Limbaugh. He brings his own huge audience, but would he do it? Maybe, but the Murdoch's seem to want to get less controversial and edgy, not more.

I totally agree with you on the future of Fox News.
I agree with you but there was more to O'Reilly than just being "an alpha male". O'Reilly could actually be entertaining. Eric Bolling is boring and not compelling. I don't need some goofy hot chick screaming conservative boiler plate at me along with crap she copy and pasted from Drudge Report. Sure it beats looking at Rachel Madcow but they need someone who is compelling and entertaining.

Its going to be tough for fox, if they don't find a new talent fast.

or

I would give that 9 pm slot to glen beck... and just tell him to not be so sure the world was ending. His info was useful and entertaining but his outlook was so negative at times it was hard to watch.

i realize he went off the deep end lately... but I think it was all just positioning. Bring back the old show with a positive outlook.

back to big revenues.
