A Republican that has to vote for Obama, Why?

Conservatives are theoretically for smaller government and less governmental spending. The republican party has not supported these ideals for 30+ years now. They have countered the Democrat's "tax and spend" with "spend and spend and sell our soul to China and start trillion dollar wars with countries that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11".
I am for smaller government, and that is why I am voting Democrat. I don't like it, but this is the lesser of two evils. My hope is that if the Republican party gets their asses handed to them enough, they will wise up and become conservative again.
I'm sorry, what is this "wealth redistribution plan" you speak of? All I've seen are sound bytes (yes, he did use that phrase. Big deal, politicians say stupid crap all the time) and tax increases on the wealthy that are very comparable to the taxes they've had to pay in the past.
Taxes are INHERENTLY a form of wealth redistribution. Even a flat percentage tax is a form of wealth redistribution--the rich pay much more than the poor. What Obama is doing is nothing special, nothing new, just the same 'ole Democrat tax-hikes-for-the-rich that this country has seen for the better part of a century.
And the Republicans, once they get their act together, will retake congress and/or the White House and they'll repeal the taxes.
I believe this country can survive a temporary tax increase... we certainly have in the past. I do NOT believe that we can survive continued deficit spending, costly wars and tremendous governmental *expansion* we've seen under the Republicans.
Plus, there's the tiny matter of Republicans opposing civil liberties (except the right to bear arms, which I applaud them for supporting) and continually trying to blur the line between church and state. That annoys me a bit.
