A religion of peace which worships the same God? not per ISIS and Burke

Several years ago, I watched a documentary film about why the poorest parents, living in mountain villages, sent their kids daily to their day school where extreme Islamic doctrines, that they didn't like, were taught.

The parents said because there was the only place where their kids can have food to eat daily, as they themselves cannot afford any food.

And the school was also the only place where their kids can learn reading, as free education at no fees!

The school's resources were actually supported by extremists, to provide free food and education for fulfilling their purpose and plan. Selecting the smart kids for further study by brainwashing them to become new recruits as extremists.

That's sad to hear but it doesn't surprise me.

In developing nations often the only school a poor person can send their kid to is a catholic school. Kid learns to read and gets a uniform and a lunch but they also have to do 1 hour of prayers.

Apples and oranges to your story because the intents are completely different.

Yes, If you realize the time to act is when minds are young and still forming, I would say the government is winning and the religions are losing. Now eliminate the government and who knows what all ideologies would be competing for students.

Access to water

The Ethiopian boomtown that welcomes water firms but leaves locals thirsty

Business in the Sululta district of Ethiopia’s Oromia region is burgeoning. So why, despite abundant rainfall, does half the population have no access to fresh water?

Messay appears committed to solving the water problem but realistic. He is critical of property investors from the capital who, he claims, seized plots illegally, and of the “corrupt” land administrators who facilitated the town’s chaotic growth. “You expect them to be more responsible, as they are from a big city,” says Messay of the investors.

Turkish contractors are digging a borehole to increase the water supply, which Messay believes might be meeting half the demand.

Nestlé Waters says it wants to help and is funding Addis Ababa University experts to study the environmental and socio-economic situation of the area. The study might feed into another “integrated” plan and possibly an effort to turn Sululta into an “eco city”. But Messay is sceptical as to whether the corporation’s public interest is genuine, noting that there were similar noises from Abyssinia Springs when the water plant was built about seven years ago.

Well, it's the goal of subsidizing education everywhere, whoever is in power there will try to mould kids the way the people in power find preferable. Of course some education systems are more positive for the kids but it's fair to say most systems will educate the kids to be patriotic and willing cannon fodders if and when the day comes, for reasons the kids would find absurd had they followed another system.
Sunnite extremists sure seem to have a way to feel sunnite above their nationality, often not for the better and obviously it becomes much more problematic when the funding comes from very bellicose parties, but it's easy to see how western education is also much about brainwashing - not necessarily bad if you interpret it as a way to nurture kids who will be in harmony with the society they live in.

It makes sense, but the issue - socially, not necessarily what the Vatican's employees state-, is more about how today's Islam compares to other religions in today's state (I care little about Christianity or Islam btw, and what God they think they worship, just thought i'd answer that part).
Crusades and Inquisition are a thing of the past for Christians - hopefully it will remain so, but religious tensions sure seem on the rise.

To be fair, the Crusades were more of a preemptive strike than an attack. England figured better to fight them there than wait to fight them at home. You would think home field advantage would be worth something. Maybe it was, They are still there.

It is. You can lose every battle at home and still win the war.

We never lost a single battle in Viet Nam.
