The Democratic Party has tried hard to convince black Americans that they should remain together as a loyal Democratic block vote. Of course that's stupid because they lose their bargaining power. But, unfortunately, 90% of them believe that there's something to be gained in this way. It's their decision (for political gain) that creates the imbalance you are talking about.
So, despite GWB's appointing Powell and Rice and other blacks to positions of extraordinary prestige and power, the Democrats work hard to demonize and ostracize those great Americans. Remember the treatment that Clarence Thomas got in the hands of the Democratic Congress? That's really racist.
Not to mention Rev Jeremiah Wright's beliefs and words - even more racist. Of course, Obama is sticking with him, which may indicate another, more covert, form of racism. Too bad

Former Senator Brooke came from a blue state, elected over 40 years ago, not a red state.

I read your comments, they provided no explanation why republican states, especially red states vote in white republicans but not black republicans.
This has nothing to do with the dems...nothing at all.
Repubs are all about party loyalty, so if they put up a republican black, the loyal party would support that candidate...unless of course their racism is even stronger than party loyalty...
