I understand "where you're coming from"... which explains your view. I'd have said the same about ANY European socialist... so my comment wasn't actually "personal".

Taxing the successful under the guise of "wealth redistribution" (which is completely IMMORAL) is not the "solution" to any problem.

As much as I agree that governments get out of hand, I also can't overlook the fact that living in a country like the US is precisely what makes it possible for the rich to attain what they do.

People might scoff at giving away 50% of their earnings, but would anyone really trade-in this opportunity to live in some shit country and keep most of the $2 they earn per day?

I don't like to see the amount of corruption that goes on in both the public and private sector, and the huge amount of inequality, but I recognize that living in a country where its safe to walk at night, and a country that provides the ability to get ahead in life if you work hard, is also a country where giving half back isn't unreasonable.

Back when a CEO made 3-4 times what an average worked did, and a guy who only finished highschool but worked hard in a factory and could pay the bills, was a country that functioned properly. The country doesn't function properly now, and in many ways I do believe its because the rich have been able to get away with getting too much of the pie. They should try the same thing in some back-ass country, and would quickly realize that the reason for their wealth back home was living in a country that made it possible for them to succeed.

Fact is, the rich make MORE pie for themselves. And some of that spills over to others. That's always been the American way! (Unfortunately less so today.. thanks to greedy, power lusting politicos. It's still OK for the smart, successful, rich to make more pie... it's just that the politicos want to tax more of it for themselves. )

I'm all for reaping the rewards of your hard work, but the states and cities are in a mess. Maybe the government spends too much, I agree, and many corporations don't pay their fare share, so that is another issue. But it has to be acknowledged that a person can only be prosperous if they live in an environment that takes advantage of that.

A corporation would love to see every employee volunteer their time. That would maximize their profits, and that clearly won't work. At the same time, a corporation needs its employees to have a certain quality of life to make them happy and healthy. But the way its set up today, the rich think that they deserve every dollar their company earns and feel like nothing has to be paid back because its their brilliance that did it. My point is that its the country that provides the opportunity first and foremost, and not their business acumen.

The younger generation does not believe in trickle down economics. They do't care if the pie grows bigger. They want their share of the pie and they want it now. Preferably to receive it without working for it and through receiving a check from the gov't.

Isn't that what the kleptomaniac Obama and Hillary Clinton espoused? Obama babbled about the highway system and h. clinton about a global village.

First a country has to have rule of law which protects private property. Then business acumen makes a country prosperous.
