A national disgrace

House Dem Eleanor Holmes Norton Called “Self-Absorbed” For Daring To Question Dear Leader’s Handling of Shutdown…

Yesterday afternoon President Stompy Feet held a meeting with Democrats to discuss the Federal Government Shutdown. Washington DC congresswoman, Eleanor Holmes, told Dear Whiner the House Bill funding DC should be supported by him and the Senate as a quick fix to the current fiscal stalemate. She was quickly jumped upon for daring to walk off the plantation and question “dear leader”…..

Washington Post Article

First thing she's got right in 35 years of race hustling.

More disgraceful actions. Convicts being paid while prison guards do not:
About 100 prison workers at South Dakota’s federal prison camp in Yankton are still showing up to work during the government shutdown, even though their pay is being denied. But in a "Say, what?!" outrage, the inmates they are supervising are still being compensated for the jobs they do onsite.

"There's a different funding for them," American Federation of Government Employees Local 4040 Union President Michele Kunkel told a local CBS affiliate.

Not insulted enough? Furloughed government workers not only getting a paid vaction, courtesy of the private sector taxpayer, they're getting a bonus. Unemployment compensation, even though they're not unemployed and they don't pay into unemployment as private sector workers do. Nice!

Withholding the trivial pay these inmates get could well put their currently unpaid but compelled to work guards at risk of a disturbance.

Ah, timely article.

n another edition of the polls the media won't cover, between September 29 and October 6, Democrats have lost a four point lead in Rasmussen's generic ballot that asks voters if they would vote for a Democrat or Republican in the upcoming midterm elections. That poll is now tied at 40% - 40%. At the end of last month, Democrats led 42% - 38%.

The media continue to run headlines that read, "Poll Shows GOP Taking Share of Shutdown Blame," which is true. Most polls show Republicans are at a single-digit deficit when compared to Democrats (still, a vast improvement over the 2-to-1 deficit the GOP faced in '95). But all that matters is what happens on Election Day.

If you back up a little further, Obama and his media's entire shutdown strategy is all about 2014. The media want to give Obama a third-term, which is an accurate way of describing what will happen if Democrats retake the House.

Like this Rasmussen poll, most polls show that Democrats are only hurting themselves a wee-bit more than Republicans. But midterm House races are hyper-local base elections. Which means that another story the media won't tell is what a GOP surrender would do to turnout in the 2014.

Context matters, and while the media ignore inconvenient polls and try to scare the GOP into handing Obama a victory, the story the media won’t tell is what a surrender will do to the GOP's electoral chances if the base feels betrayed and stays home.

When you are in political trouble, you hold on to your base. That is Politics 101. That is why Obama is doing what he's doing and why Democrats are doing what they are doing.

Everyone is in political trouble, but the only Party the media are trying to coax into a full collapse is the GOP.

Great article.

Failure now that they are seen to have gone all in will be devastating for republican turnout. Add in an amnesty sellout and you are looking at a wipeout.

Of course, the party establishment will then lecture us that is what happens if we don't appeal to the middle.

Votes are there to break shutdown, but not the will

This is a clever ploy by Obama and his media allies but is totally irrelevant. Boehner controls when and if there is a vote. Boehner is Speaker because republicans control the House, just liek Reid is Leader because dems control the Senate. Neithr would keep his post for long if he started rigging votes to allow the other party to prevail on hot button issues.

What the media should be examining is why Obama is so afraid to negotiate. All the republicans are asking for is the same thing Obama illegally granted to numerous groups, waivers or delays in Obamacare. Why is he so hellbent on taking us off a cliff, just to score a political victory.

Just to score a political victory? :D What do you suppose politics is about?

I think if we step back and look at this dispassionately it is obvious why Obama isn't negotiating. He wins if he doesn't negotiate. He losses if he does. Either the Republicans cave or they don't.They lose either way. Obama has outsmarted them. There is really not much the Republicans can do, they are coming apart at the seams. Not that the Democrats are united or brilliant, but so far at least they haven't tried to commit suicide.

One two week delay on social security checks and any registered Republicans receiving social security are now Democrats!

The Republicans have put themselves in a no win situation. They badly need new leadership.

Actually, come to think of it, they self destructed the day they kissed off 47% of the electorate.

If Obama decides to prioritize the gov't cash, which incidentally they have claimed they can't do, and pay the bondholders instead of the ss recipients, you say the ss recipients are automatically going to blame reps instead of obama?

How exactly do you know this?

Yes that is exactly what will happen. They will prioritize and pay on bonds and notes first. Obama will tell the social security recipients that it is the Republicans' fault that they are not getting paid and they will believe him because he has a darker tan then Boner. :D

(Intelligence and sun tan are correlated!)

Seriously, who would you blame? Would you blame the House Majority that is refusing to bring a clean CR to the floor that can pass the Senate, or would you blame the minority that does not control what comes to the floor?
