A Curious Thing Happened When Ontario Hiked Minimum Wages By Over 20%

Perhaps the Left is missing business trends where there are increasing growth rates in Conservative governed states due to a business friendly environment such as lower taxes, less regulation, lower real estate prices, skilled work force, and an appreciation for values.

It is true that California’s economy is yuge, but that is not because of Democratic policies, it is in spite of it. California benefits greatly from trade with Asia. However, I would bet there is more than an Conservative or two is involved in California’s exceptional agricultural production, for which credit seems to accrue to the Democrats.

Care to talk about Baltimore’s economic disaster with net population outflows for several decades and the 150 years of Democratic control for a while? How about one of the many other large, long-term Democratic controlled economic wastelands?

Businesses create jobs and the wise politician does not try to get in their way.

You don't really understand how it works.
Cities became great following free market principles and providing rule of law.
California was a very free place as it boomed. Now as it gets more and more left it is in freefall.

Orange County and San Diego are not starting their downfall as the left has spent the last decade or 2 taking over. Lefty politicians appealing to millions of new citizens.

Look what happened in N.C. north carolina boomed overall as a conservative state... Then economic refugees from lefty places move there... then withing a few years the politicians realize they can get elected by proposing the same failed shit in new terms.

Who after Lindsey Koch and Dinkins put NYC on life support.. it was a hellhole Giuliani returned to glory. Now the left will proceed to turn it into a shithole again.

Ah yes

The 'stupid left' and selective cherry picking of data to show how Cons are great economic geniuses.

But they never answer why red states where these policies are in action tend to be such economic shitholes.

If you can't run your own shitholes well enough, try not to lecture others on your genius policies.

Basic macro-economics is a pretty well established discipline that is able to make relatively accurate predictions about responses to various stimuli and conditions.

The economists, in the case of increased minimum wages, made very clear predictions of what would happen and what the secondary impacts would be on housing, inflation etc

So what is happening is no mystery. The politicians were told clearly by the economists what would happen. They charged ahead with a lot of happy talk and now they are faced with the result.

Liberals have abandoned science in so many ways...

May need to send Trump there to straighten things out and Make Canada Great Again.

Say what you will about Trump, he knows fast food. He may put provisions in the new NAFTA trade deal to straighten this out just to show compassionate relief for working people in Canada. We know that Justin is focused on Making Cuba Great Again so we don't want to bother him.

What happens is an area booms like north carolina. then refugees from lefty places move there... then withing a few years the politicians realize they can get elected by proposing the same failed shit in new terms.

So California is in free fall? What planet are you living in?

Exactly, when the words 'science' comes to mind, I think of Alabama and Kansas conservatives with their booming economy and love of peer reviewed scientific journals.

compared to how well it was run in the late 80s.
taxes have gotten out of control
regulation is driving business and out of the state

California is leading in one area, outmigration of its people... particularly the upper middle class and lower upper class.

the paragraph below tries to frame this a a preference for suburbs but its really a preference for sanity from crazy destructive leftist taxes and polices which destroy a persons ability to make a living.

...
California’s choice
The apparent growing appetite for suburban living presents a unique challenge to California. The state policy is aggressively anti-suburban, placing ever-higher hurdles on any development on the periphery. This, over time, is slowing construction in the interior and forcing housing prices unnaturally up, even in these areas.

Some so-called progressives hail these trends, as forcing what they seem to see as less desirable elements — that is, working- and middle-class people — out of the state. They allege that this is balanced out by a surge of highly educated workers coming to California. Essentially, the model is that of a gated community, with a convenient servant base nearby.

Yet, in reality, this may prove to be wishful thinking. A dive into Internal Revenue Service data shows distinctly that, while poor people are, indeed, leaving, the largest group of outmigrants tends to be middle-aged people making between $100,000 and $200,000 annually. They may not be ideal algorithm creators for Facebook, but they do constitute the solid middle ranks critical to any healthy economy.

Indeed, since 2010, the Golden State has seen an overall net outflow of $36 billion from these migrants (and that counts only the first year of income). The biggest gainers from this exchange are where Californians are moving, to such places as Texas, Arizona and Nevada. That some California employers are joining them in the same places should be something of a two-minute warning for state officials.

California is losing tech workers to still income tax free Washington State, where the tech wages to real estate price ratio is very favorable. Incidentally, Texas is also personal state income tax free.

Utah is also becoming a magnet for tech. This trend will accelerate when Washington’s Governor gets his way and imposes a state income tax.

These Leftist politicians believe that productive people come to their state for their policies?
